My Vision

I saw him first that moon bright night on glistening, ice covered hills
His path disappearing beneath his horse's hooves as he thundered past
I knew not from whence he came or where his destiny took him
But I knew of his great importance to me, the world and to life itself
Seconds past as he dashed on, breathing hard and snow flung high
Head low and mane clenched, he had no eyes for someone such as me
The second and last time I saw him he was no longer on horseback
Walking deep in drifts of snow he moved away to somewhere else
As I watched in that fleeting second, his back covered deep in furs
He turned slowly with eyes searching and they locked me hard and fast
It was at that time I knew of him, vivid depth and knowledge
He was everything I was not and more, I could do nothing but stare
He peered at me a moment longer, almost challenging me to follow
But he knew before I and turned to leave, his shoulders holding all at bay
I scanned those in front of him, hardship etched from this barren land
Yet he carried enough hope upon his back for all of us to know
