Wait..This is the end?

Unless your writing another series to continue this story then i think this is a damn odd place to end it, it leaves to many questions unanswered, especially after adding a new element to the story.

Anon,

He has had previous stories that their ending are not all tied in a bow with all aspects finished. In some cases, like the Were War stories, a new group of people may be introduced with tie-ins from a previous series. Granted, this series just had Saved By My Mate as it's origin but given the ending, the next series could be darker much like the Were Wars.

Captain Kennedy, the beta, is going to be in a tough position. I can see lots of trouble for him. He could be a focal point with lesser interactions from characters in this story. The packs have basically revealed themselves, their numbers and capabilities to the Colonel. Very dangerous should he acquire numbers and a desire to subdue/exterminate them. Declaring martial law is funny because even regular people aren't going to like being told to hand over their stuff. Ask for help and a great many Americans will gladly try. Demand obedience and we have a history of putting up a fight.

He could go back to Mystery Mate and or Were War story lines and revisit those characters this year in a new series and let this hang a while.

Nine months and 153k words later....

There may be another book later, but this is the end of this story segment. The scope of this book was to look at an extinction level event and how it would change humans and werewolves; how would they react, and what kind of world would emerge? We have seen what has happened, a local pack-based society has developed among them and it is effective in setting them up for survival.

The old federal system has collapsed, and without communication and enforcement it can't continue. That doesn't mean some won't try.

The battle, if any, would be subject for a future book. I have an unrelated book I will be working on before then.

Enjoyed the story

Thanks for sharing your work and imagination with us. The ending was fine by the way. It kept the possibility of a sequel open. With the military being what they usually are, it is an easy start for a new one if you chose to do that. Good job

AnonymousAnonymousabout 7 years ago

If this is the end I am feeling very upset. You are leaving us at a important part of the story. As usual the military is out to control or kill what every does not do what they want. Please do not end the story like this it is not fair to the story or us the readers.E

We all will await your next story idea partwolf.

Another speculation on this story line.

If surviving numbers of government personnel are that few and they all have the attitude of Colonel tyrant, ah Kennedy, cooperation is going to be a stressful matter. It looks like the POGs or POGUEs (whichever pejorative you prefer) are the ones left in charge.

Marcus and any other survivors, human or wolf, could be recalled to active duty as a way of increasing their numbers and gaining leverage and control. Maybe a keep your friends close and enemies closer sort of thing.

I would hope that they have a much more practical outlook. Basic survival is the first order of business along with a working command structure which the wolves have created whether they like it or not. The one base commander i've had even remote contact with was a straight forward man. Present a problem to him and your solution for that problem and you likely will get approval even if it requires doing things differently. You just have to be able to do what you promise.

It's sad to say goodbye to the characters but like the other stories, there is always hope for a revisit in the future.

This is a well put together story. I'm looking forward to whatever you got in the pipe line through.

As to this story itself, that Air NG Officer and NORAD are high as kite at the moment. They National Command Authority is either dead or in bunkers out on the east coast. NORAD has maybe a few thousand airmen, sailors, marines, soldiers, plus throw in a few foreign military personal from friendly nations for good measure. They got one AG Unit out in the boondocks with a working helicopter and 11 men and one wolf. They aren't in a position to demand shit.

Further from the sounds of it that Colonel doesn't know one of his pilots is a wolf, that could go bad quickly. We don't know the status of that pack yet. Plus the southern pacts in the AO are unknown at the moment. Even more so if that wolf hears that they are going to force the people under the Alphas to move against their will.

I hope you come back to this sooner or later as its a good story and there are still a lot of loose ends. But I'm looking forward to seeing what you got in the pipeline.

Bad ending

It seems you got tired of writing and ended this quickly with no further thought to the story lines you started.

When you begin storylines you need to finish them.

Maybe you got burnt out in trying so hard to do them all and fix them all that all you could attempt was a half assed ending that looked like it was going to go some where and fizzled in a big fail.

Done?

I am going to assume that this is just a jumping off point for yet another one of your wonderful stories.... Right??? I loved this series. It kept me up way too late for many nights when I thought 'just one more chapter.'

I hope there is more to the story,or, another series to follow. I love your writing, and I have fallen in love with your characters.

Woah

Some of comments are pretty damn harsh.

Maybe the bitchers should go out and buy a completed book

Instead of reading a good story for free and then whining about

It not ending the way they want. I appreciate the great story

And that I get to read it for free.

Great Story

Great story, very enjoyable. I think it was reasonable to end it there, the narrative was running out of steam on it's own. Time to start thinking of a sequel set a few years in the future with the packs well-established and facing some sort of new threat to the region's survival.

Continued by a person who wants closure...

The alphas continued their discussions until almost dawn when they were forced to take shelter from the still unforgiving sun. Each agreeing on a territory and eventually through the help of their sub committees forging a plan to not only help each other but also anyone who could be found who needed help, knowing in the back of their minds that the military would come back one day and they would need to be ready to not only defend their land and loved ones; but the new way of life they were now living.

Ending the Pause

I was a bit startled that the ending seemed like a pregnant pause in a series of series. I read the authors comment, and understand the intent of the ending.

I read the other comments and decided, for myself, that the ending would have felt complete if the phrase "We can't let them get more established, or we won't have a chance." had not been included in the final paragraph.

I enjoy the cliffhanger chapter endings where the last line is repeated in the first line of the next chapter. It maybe a could be added into his statement at the beginning of a new book / series, as the story continues on.

This isn't my book and I wouldn't dream of telling an author what to do with their stories, plots, characters, etc. This isn't a form of rebuke, just a simple admission of what would have felt like an end, rather than a pause, to me.

Then again, isn't it great when a book or series ignites conversation, ---pause for dramatic effect--- ??!

cindyp1976cindyp1976about 3 years ago
really great

really great story but when you do your next book you should have the colonel be blocked by what's left of the government from trying to eliminate the wolves which would be stupid because you need as many of the surviving people to survive as possible. I mean 90% of humans died in the solar storm if you want to rebuild the species you need genetic diversity. especially since you don't know how hard the rest of the world was hit and the government and communication has collapsed you have to go with what you got. then when colonel disobeys and you know he will the werewolf that works with him can team up with the other wolves to eliminate him permenantly.

The following day, a volley of MinuteMan IIs left their silos en route to SE Idaho. A contagion had been discovered, one which threatened the entire human species. A species that had become the planets' apex predator and wasn't going to relinquish that position without a fight.

skippersdadskippersdadover 2 years ago

What the hell how can it end like this

PurplefizzPurplefizzover 1 year ago

Good story, but completely skips over the fact that all plant life, worms, bees and soil bacteria etc are dead, ergo the eco-system is gone, which means all those people that were saved/turned will starve in 6-12 months, sadly Luna saying it’ll be a lean year is a bit of an overstatement to say the least. Let’s not get into prepper politics either, plenty of outlets for that kind of thing away from here.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

I had always hoped you would write a sequel to this very excellent story. Say 6 or 9 months down the line. The new packs being formed in territories basically empty and everyone both human and wolf working together to build a new life. All the packs sending out search teams much further out to look for survivors and bring the back if they wanted to. How would it pay out with the surviving military? Would they accept the status quote or try to enforce their will upon the Weres? They are probably outnumbered 10 or more to one and things probably turn out badly for the military if they tried to enforce marshal law. NORAD is a paper tiger, all bark and no way to back upon their threats.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

There is a sequel, where they go into detail about what you expressed Anonymous.

ProgamermoveProgamermoveabout 1 year ago

Wow, that just kind of ended lol. Nice series though

AnonymousAnonymous11 months ago

Purplefizz, there will be some areas that had enough cover for plants and insects to survive. Deep canyyns, cave opening etc. The wolves will have to carefully survey the countrysida and collect seeds and grubs to speed up recovery, but that won't make for a very interesting story, I fear. Some survivalists are bound to have stored supplies of seed in their bunkers as well.

AnonymousAnonymous11 months ago

My bleak prediction for how this world would end up. Somalia isn't a bad analogy.

The current peace between packs seems to be an anomaly, usually neighboring packs fought each other. It might only take a year with supplies running out before these packs started raiding each other, or at least within a generation as new leaders took over. You would get a world divided into small groups of around 100 werewolves in, at best, uneasy peace with each other. While previously the need to keep secret from humans had limited wars that obstacle would also be gone.

Small groups like this is not enough to rebuild any manufacturing base so as old gear wore out society would return to a more and more primitive state. Unlike with humans, for werewolves the structure of society is genetically determined so it's not certain we'd ever see larger states evolve as they did in our world.

What werewolves would excel at is raiding nearby human groups that tried to rebuild society, so humans would not fare any better. Then while humans can be converted to werewolves the opposite isn't true. If werewolves ever took over completely there would be no going back.
