Excellent! Still teaching valuable life lessons like in Fishing with My Daughter and The Hillbilly.

I’ll have to remember this the next time I find my ball on a hard dirt rough and know with certainty the damage I’ll do to my clubhead if I don’t give the ball a nudge back onto the grass a la Judge Smails (Caddyshack). As a lifelong duffer this story made me chuckle quite a bit. As mediocre as my game is, I still derive great satisfaction from playing, and yes, even from watching others. Golf is one a a large number of wholly individual and introspective activities that is nevertheless much more fun when shared with like minded companions. It is an appropriate metaphor for many facets of life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Always a pleasure.

Nice.

As a lifelong golfer, this makes sense to me. I don't play as frequently as I once did, but the lessons you mention are valid.

Thanks for your stories and this post.

I read this story early in the morning before I go play a round with some of my retired firefighter friends. We are all in our 60's and some 70's now but we cherish everyday on the course together. After the round is over we raise a glass to those are no longer with us and count ourselves lucky. You have a good round hey "it's golf" you have a bad one "it's golf" as long as you enjoy it, and we do. Play it where it lies unless it's on a rock, tree root, cart path, etc. I mean let's not get carried away use common sense which unfortunately isn't all that common :). To quote a famous movie line which applies to life/golf or wherever it suits you

" Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what your'e going to get"

Thanks for writing

Well done. The only thing I will add is some days you get the bear on the course and somedays it gets you. Everybody has had a round that just goes sideways and you just have to power through it.

@johncooksey and others - I'll just say two words "winter rules" and on some public courses in particular it's winter twelve months out of every year. Thank you, everyone, for the kind remarks.

There’s an old saying that “____ is a form of meditation where you can tell how you’re doing.” Golf certainly fits that description. Thanks for writing.

Love it. So true. Thank you!

I went to a local golf pro for assistance/lessons. After my evaluation, he told me there were only 3 things that I was doing wrong: my grip, my stance, and my swing.

Interesting thing is, the values put forth in this story also apply to a lot of other things in life. As for golf, I've never played the game except for miniature golf and hitting some balls at a driving range. Found out I sucked at both so decided to leave that sport to others and have never regretted it. May your ball always land on the green.

A bit of life philosophy is welcome.

Do you know how much I welcome this, as opposed to the other kinds of advice I see on Literotica? Compared to "how to cuckold your husband" and "how to submit to bulls" and the other stuff I see, this is sooooo much better. I'll read it again.

Dead Solid Perfect is awesome.

Be well!

100%, golf has inbuilt integrity. That means doing the right thing when no one is watching. The 18th green is the closest green to the 1st tee so the parallel with life going on your journey then returning home is very apt. 5*s

So true, I think any golfer will appreciate this, as anyone who plays the game and grins and bears it with a smile, no matter how badly the score is going, is a philosopher and a person well knowing.

Not a story but a decent philosophy lesson.

I liked this article lot. As a philosophy for life its really good. More people should adopt it as it would make our lives better. Probably like this because I play golf. Badly, at times very badly but I still keep playing. BardnotBard

I suppose I write for many of the same reasons that others do. First, I am exorcising my demons. I use writing to explore my thoughts and emotions, sometimes embracing, and perhaps ridding myself of, my darker thoughts and sometimes finding happier themes to celebrate. It s...
