You placed me on a pedestal,
Hoping that what you saw was,
What was really there,
I tried to maintain the look,

But perfection is unachievable,
I can’t give you what I simply don’t have,
You shouldn’t ask for more than I can give,

Slowly my world crumbled,
The illusion was shattered,
Because I done something I shouldn’t have,

I told you that you’d find,
Your way but I guess,
That you didn’t understand,
You could do it by yourself,

Trying to let you walk by yourself,
Was hard I didn’t want to,
Push you away incase,
You went running back to her,

Even though I didn’t want you,
I wasn’t ready to share,
What I considered to be mine.

Nice ending

I liked the last three lines. It is interesting that one should want to hold onto someone out of possessiveness even though one doesn't really want them. Lines about the partner finding their own way were confusing, however.
