This is a cute story; really, it is. I wouldn't mind seeing the rest of it. The problem with the writing is that it has so many ambiguities. The tired waitress who sat down at the counter; the idea that Albuquerque is "less than 2,000 miles" from Oregon is true, but you might as well say it's less than 10,000 miles (or maybe you could have said 1,000 miles); and the driver waiting until Reni had checked in; and others. It's little things like these which interrupt the flow of reading the story, and thereby detract from the entertainment value. Keep working, though; there's a lot of potential, here.
