They also seemed a lot more civilized about divorces. This is one of the few stories where either contracts a lawyer for the divorce or hides money.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. There were however several distractions which interfered with the overall impact. Harry have already made my main two comments regarding the abruptness of the ending (yes, there should be a build up toward the end) and the real risk Sarah was exposed to in being re exposed to a violent ex spouse. <P>

The narrator conceals assets. He exploits an inept justice system by assaulting the lover , does token jail time and ducks the fiscal liens. Overall this story does mega-entertaining. job of straddling the line between fantasy and realism no matter the different culture & lexicon of expression.

You spin a good yarn. That said you might consider a proof reader; either an American or one intimately familiar with idiomatic USA English.

Here is an example word choice that makes Americans stumble during tge,story:

You will NEVER hear that anywhere in the USA. Universally it is,a liguer store.

I found quite a few issues like that and the prevalence of them automatically tells me the writer is not an American. By itself that is no-never-mind. But, if you want your story to flow unimpeded in the readers in the USA consider my suggestion. Again, nice story.

The MC didn't handle the situation as I most likely would have, but his reaction was a lot more interesting to read than mine would be. I enjoyed the story.
