It is obviously written for the American culture for in my country prison is like a hotel and the girl would be safe. She would get 5 years at most, and do just 2 years because of good behaviour. In the USA, jails are private enterprises adn highly unsafe. A girl like this would be raped on a daily basis, I guess. That is quite another matter.
