You wrote that your character was “2000 miles from home”, and then described the colder weather “back in Albuquerque”. Please, take a quick look at a roadmap next time— the only way that it would be a 2,000 mile trip if you went by way of the Canadian border!

From Albuquerque, you can jump on I-40 westbound and be in LA in just under 12 hours if you drive straight through— it’s about 760 miles.
