"All the better to keep a hold of you," Maggy reasoned.

"Magdalena, I don't like you, but I'm not going to do anything that I know will make you dead," I replied. My phone rang. 'GED F/B'. I thought about my response. I typed 'ChLtBg' then hung up. I wondered if they would figure out that 'Charge of the Light Brigade' meant I was making a break for the front door.

For the life of me I couldn't figure out why I didn't type 'F' or 'FD' for front door.

"Magdalena, the police are coming around the front and back. Time for me to go," I sighed.

"What have you done wrong this time?" Maggy smirked at me.

"They don't need an excuse with me," I tiredly informed her.

I turned and walked toward the curtain. The woman who had brought me in blocked my path.

"Why do you think you can leave?" Magdalena asked.

"Staying, or running, it doesn't really matter," I shrugged. "For that matter, I might as well start screaming, because I can always rely on the sick curiosity of strangers."

I inhaled. I figured I was about to get punched, pistol whipped or kicked in the nuts (but not too hard).

"I'll keep in touch," Magdalena said. "Besides, I don't really feel like sitting around while some police officer pretends she is the next Claire Wyatt."

The character, Claire Wyatt, was a famous criminologist on a current TV drama; equal parts Laura Croft and Veronica Mars – a perfect mix of body types if there was any doubt. It wasn't bad if you could get past the boy-in-distress turned bed buddy every damn episode. Technically she was bi-sexual, but that always translated over as a three-way boy sandwich.

"Magdalena, if I make my getaway before we meet again...well...I'm not going to say anything more that might piss you off, so good-bye," I edged around my feminine barrier. I virtually sprinted to Capri, who hopped off her barstool at my approach. "Cops coming," I blurted out. She grabbed my hand as we fled out the door.

"Mr. Israel Jensen," a woman called out. I knew who it was, but looked anyway. It was Detective Somerset Trainer. She was about 7 meters away, getting out of her car, facing me. Her partner, Detective Gayle Seger was already on the sidewalk, coming my way.

"Bad news," Capri squeezed my hand.

I followed her gaze. From the other direction Detectives Kwan Po and Regina Riga, also of the GED. The limousine in front of the restaurant meant they were slightly farther away.

"Hey, Somerset," I mumbled. "What's up?"

"Stop right there," she grinned. "You are under arrest."

"What's he charged with?" Capri snapped. The cops were cautiously closing in.

"Theft," Somerset kept smiling. "It seems he has some little bugs running around inside him that belong to someone else."

"That's a load of crap," Capri shot back. Me, I was getting ready to plunge into the post-lunch traffic.

"That would require someone to confess they had the damn research," Capri seethed. Right then, I saw Flame stepped outside, Silent right behind her. Flame's eyes took in the scene. The World cracked a little more.

Wow

This thing has more twists then a roller coaster, excellent job on obscuring who's doing what to whom and what's building behind the hints. (I had to read that twice). This thing is excellent on twisting around. 5 stars

Aaakkk!!!

You are correct. I did not make that clear.

They are building an air-tight case to arrest Israel (thus violating his Civil Rights in some manner) as opposed to simply tossing a few charges out there, dragging him into custody and then building the case as they move forward - which, as we have seen hinted at, the cops are more than willing to do when a male is concerned and what Dimples and Co. did with their Material Witness warrant.

The 'air-tight' case is for the benefit of Shelia's (and Dimples') superiors so those august souls can look on their computer screens and see their minions are making progress in the field, gathering tons and tons of data on Israel and can then tell their own bosses everything is A-okay should anyone make an inquiry.

Also, the 'air-tight' case does not involve 'The Cure' (which their superiors aren't even sure exists), but is about Israel being both clinically insane and a Menace to Society - thus treasonous and legally detainable. Remember, they not only have Israel's public performances and private FBI interviews, they have every tidbit Angel has turned over to the Vanisher Taskforce as well. All that adds up to further leads to rundown, people to interview and other busywork which bureaucrats love to see accomplished ... and time to be wasted creating that 'air-tight' case.

And all the while Dimples and Co. are trying to figure out who is behind the 'Big Lie' so they can make their real case against the real traitors.

Yeah ... I didn't make that clear at all. I apologize.

Ugh ...

Yeah that helps

Title says, it helps.

I didn't get the reference with Shella building an air tight case and the shifting through the chatter bit. It went over my head that they were actually doing their jobs considering they haven't done their jobs so far, are cops and we are lead to believe that most of them cannot/will not do their jobs if it involves putting their neck out - especially for a 'male.'

That still leaves me the quandry of 'building an air tight case' for what? to prove that he's right? But I remember it saying 'against you' soo it almost seems to set up a Dimples vs Shella situation in my mind from what i'd picked up.

again, probably missed something, but at least now i'm on the right page, if not the right paragraph ahha.

Dimple's FBI Team

The FBI Manhunters, at this stage of the story, aren't on Israel's side. They are still trying to build the case against both Dr. Harmon and whomever in the Federal Government is behind the 'Big Lie' ... as the 'Big Lie' is just that - government malfeasance - a crime string with Conspiracy to Defraud the Federal Republic and going from there as multiple other laws have been broken along the way.

{As the story goes}

"We are trying to shift through the chatter and figure out who is really trying to get their hands on you," Fraklos clued me in.

"Montanyard is building such an air-tight case against you she could patch the Hindenburg," Vabishi stated. "She thinks she can hold them off a week."

{***}

The Dimples' FBI and Shelia Montanyard are trying to figure out who to start arresting and that means leaving Israel free, out & about. Israel's freedom requires public officials to 'bend' the law to bring him in ... which is against the law.

Again, at this stage, Dimples is still thinking about making arrests even if those arrests topple the current administration. She couldn't be more right as this does, indeed, go all the way to the top ~ the President. After all, saying "we did it for the good of society" is not a valid criminal defense strategy. This also means a bunch of 'retired' government & elected officials are/were part of the conspiracy and should be facing charges eventually too.

Unfortunately for Shelia, Dimples & Co., Israel has a much better view of the Big Picture than they do and senses when they realize they can't win, they will also refuse to be bought off, or otherwise silenced, so they will have to become 'self-employed'.

I hope this helps,

James aka FinalStand
