"I know. Those two are smart. Wouldn't be surprised if... Hey! I didn't tell you that. How did you know there was a wreath of sunflowers around the unicorn's neck?" He looked at Marian. "You! It was you? You took Virgil? You risked the wrath of Laci by taking Virgil?"

"I did and it was fantastic to have the chance to drive Donovan just a little crazier. Now instead of only one unicorn staring him down, there are five. It's been years since I've done anything to disrupt his world and he was long overdue. Plus it was nice to get even for all the nasty things he always says to you. Although you do deserve most of them. You should feel terrible for tormenting my poor cousin the way you do."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Victor asked.

"Because you can't keep a secret to save your life or anyone else's."

"You're my hero," Victor said with awe. "I never guessed. You have so earned the right to call tying privileges for the rest of the month."

"And luckily, I've got the scarves right here."

As he had done so frequently, Donovan was pacing impatiently as he waited for Laci.

What always took her so long? It was essential to have both of them present if they were going to recreate their wedding night. He'd even gone out to the garden and picked enough sunflowers for a small bouquet, placing it on her pillow as a surprise. And now he was waiting. Again. Not that it wasn't worth the wait. Laci was always worth the wait, but what the hell was taking so long?

"Hey."

He turned at the sound of her voice and just in time to catch the bouquet of sunflowers that seemed to have been aimed directly at his head.

"Why are you throwing the flowers at me?" he wanted to know. "Now what did I do?"

Her brighter than the sunflower sunbeams lit up the room. "It's tradition for the bride to toss the bouquet and whoever catches it will be the next one married. Since you're already married, I changed the tradition. The new tradition is that when a married man catches the bouquet he gets to have sex with his wife all night."

He looked at the flowers in his hand then back at her. A change to the throwing of the bouquet tradition? Why not? She'd already changed the whole Dominant/submissive tradition. Change was a good thing.

"Good new tradition," he told her. "I don't mind supplying the bouquets. Do you think, maybe, you can do some work on the mistletoe at Christmas thing? That could use some updating. I can supply the mistletoe, too."

She gave him her special look. "Your bells are definitely worth jingling." She was almost a blur as she flew across the room and into his arms.

How, he wondered, could he still be wonderstruck by his beautiful Prom Queen? He'd been hit by sunbeams and bolts of lightning. He'd heard symphonies and ridden rainbows. They had fucked, insta-fucked and super-colossal-mega-fucked. They'd had sex and made love and each time was like the first time and better than the last time.

He continued to be overwhelmed by the sheer force of her love. Logical or illogical as their relationship might be, they had something other people could only wish for. He knew he would always treasure her just as she would cherish him forever. Forever.

The sensation of arousal flooded through him as he pulled her as close as he possibly could, his hardness pressed against her softness. She responded with her own caresses, running her hands over his muscular shoulders and bare chest until his skin felt as if it was on fire. He wasn't sure who was responsible for the murmurs of pleasure he was hearing as he kissed her over and over, savoring her taste. It was pure bliss.

Ten. Black. Beady. Staring. Eyes.

"Damn it, Laci." Frustrated he pulled away. "I can't do this. It was bad enough when it was just Virgil the Hateful, but now it's all of them. His wife. His kids. We can't do this in front of his kids. Even Dominants have morals. Probably more than most people."

"Donovan, they're stuffed toys. It's no different than doing it in front of a model train set or Matthew's tricycle.

"A train set or tricycle doesn't stare at us. I'm going to take a shower. A very long, very cold shower. Maybe two showers. Long and cold."

She sighed as she watched him stomp off to their bathroom then turned to the unicorn family sitting contentedly on the chair. "Virgil, we have to talk."

Standing under the icy water, Donovan was berating himself for his foolish behavior. He had the most beautiful wife a man could wish for and he had walked away from her because of a stuffed toy? Make that five stuffed toys. With beady eyes.

What the hell was wrong with him? He had allowed himself to be intimidated by a growling horse, a semi-moronic weasel and a family of staring unicorns. Why did she keep putting up with him? He had only himself to blame if she kicked him out forever.

Forever. His thoughts from earlier came rolling back: 'He would always treasure her just as she would cherish him forever'. Damn he was a fool.

As he exited the bathroom, he wasn't surprised to see the bedroom lights were off and she was lying in bed with her back to him. He slid into bed next to her wondering what he could possibly say to make things better.

Finally he decided simple and honest was best. "Laci, I overreacted again. I'm sorry."

"Are you?"

She didn't turn to face him and he grimaced at the sound of her icy tone. It was nearly as cold as his shower. He wasn't going to lose control again. There would be no babbling. "Any chance you're still in the mood to re-create our wedding night?"

"Are you sure you don't mean begin our divorce night?"

That didn't sound good. "It's not my fault. He stares and he's always resented me. It's like he staked his claim because he knew you first." What was that sound, he wondered? "Are you laughing at me?"

He didn't have to wonder for very long. She was immediately in his arms. "Is that why you were acting so guilty when Virgil vanished? You didn't take him but you also didn't want him to come back because you actually believed I'd choose him over you?"

Even in the dark room his pout was obvious. "Well, you have known him longer."

"Donovan Corbett, whatever am I to do with you? Promise me you'll never change. There isn't a man in this entire world that could ever make me feel as loved and adored as much as you do. By the way, it might interest you to know that Virgil has been temporarily reassigned."

"Temporarily reassigned? What does that mean?"

"You know how much Virgil means to me but he came into my life when I didn't have anyone else and I really needed him. That's changed. Now I have Matthew, my job, our whole slightly insane family and, most of all, I have you. Virgil's just lonely because he doesn't have to look after me anymore and he doesn't feel needed so he's been reassigned to look after Matthew with the understanding that when you're out of town he can come back and take care of me until you return."

"That seems fair," Donovan stated begrudgingly.

"There is one additional stipulation."

"What kind of stipulation?" he asked suspiciously.

"Well, Matthew is going to be three in a couple of weeks and his time wanting to interact with unicorns is probably limited, therefore, you have approximately two years to learn to get along with Virgil and his family. Either they get to come back here or you'll have to add an extension to the house and build them their own apartment."

"Their own apartment? You're not serious?" he asked incredulously. "I have two years?" He was silent for a moment. "I'll call the architect in the morning." Damn she was good. "You picked me over Virgil. You actually picked the Prince of Darkness over the unicorn."

"Of course I did," she assured him. "Even though unicorns are very pure of heart, the Prince of Darkness has a much better horn."

Don't ever underestimate a Prom Queen with shoes.

And they lived happily ever after.

At least for now. At the moment, it is back to writing the book.

Meanwhile, it seems like the more I write, the more ideas I get, so at some point, after I finish the book, the Prince and his Prom Queen might possibly return.

Thank you to everyone who has followed the story and commented or sent emails. It has been a wonderful experience.

Bigg_Mike -- you will always be my Virgil!

Wonderful

For a moment, I thought we were about to have a lull in the game. That's what I get for thinking! Great job.

So I'll give the chihuahua to Marian.

He likes to run in tight circles in front of you as you walk so you trip and kill yourself. Yeah, that would be good for Marian. That was a cruelly protracted 'trick' to play and cause such wide-spread distress.

Not sure Laci earned her Team Donovan shirt yet. She still had to yank his chain when he came back to bed. Poor Prince of Darkness, it is not paranoia if they are out to get you. He wouldn't know what to do if they all treated him straight.

*throws unicorn dust to celebrate another chapter!*

And it turns out they will be back sooner than I expected

The book is back on hold *sigh* and part 8 is in progress. Donovan is searching for a gift for Laci's birthday.
