This is quite the most intriguing story I've read on here. It balances the raw and elemental with the prosaic and descriptive beautifully. I was feeling and hearing and tasting and touching with your characters and the narrative was strong and committed. The twist of the final para is bleakly dark yet obliquely positive (so many uses for one small word) in a forward looking sense.

I even loved it enough to overlook the odd twist of tense and typo.
