Desperation can lead to a very special moment in one's life when giving in is all that can be done. I love the clock! I like how you replaced the dichotomy of life and death with gratitude and servitude and it no longer mattered if she lived or died, but pleased or displeased.

The tone is great, it's not over the top at all. In fact, it's a little understated and I think that serves it nicely. Using gratitude as a motivating factor was a crafty choice. The collar and nametag was also a nice touch.

Honestly, I wish you would write more.
