I enjoyed the story, but there were a few bits which took me out of the world.

"The year was 1887, late fall."

zippers were not invented until 1893. :) bra invented 1889

panties???

And some of the language struck me as a bit too contemporary.

Minor details to be sure, and I am not much of a stickler or historian, but for whatever reason I noted these things.

BTW a fellow litster directed me to your story, and I am glad of it.
