Correctly. Alice was kind of a bitch it sounds like. He pined over her & she either didn't know or didn't care. Sally liked him in the same way he liked Alice, but unlike Alice to him, he did like Sally as a friend. It took Alice leaving for him to finally choose the right woman. In the end he did get the girl next door, just not the one he expected. Great story.

that said I wouldn't have minded if this took it's time a little more. Without having a slower process where he starts to want sally instead of alice there's a bit of nagging doubt about whether he'd go for his old crush if he had the chance
