Even for your abnormally high standards of composition, this particular work was sublime. The plot was intelligently conceived and well-executed, with just enough foreshadowing to hint at the ending while still leaving enough subconscious doubt to let it have an impact at the moment of revelation. When it looked like another dark ending, I was set to say this: Sometimes I just wish a bunch of crazy orcs with machine guns would break in, shoot the hypnotists, take the cash and run off, laughing. But every now and then, you just do something like this. A happy ending that makes all our mixed feelings on, "It's such a great story, but it's so depressing!" worth it. I do a little goblin salute to you, sir!
