Let me see if I have this right. Steve plans to study all weekend. He finishes early and goes out to find his friends and girlfriend. Seriously when did she really apologize? When before the hospital did she really show remorse? When did she own what she did beyond it happened, and I won't do it again but hey remember Becky! And oh yeah thr comment about how he was the one throwing away the marriage when he asked her to stay and that he loved her which set him off, and then she left and moved out. That conversation outside the house on its own is the marriage killer. She was probably ashamed but could not admit fault (talk about an ego and running to the bottle to drown her sorrows) and baited him as if she didn't want to go through the hassle of rebuilding their marriage. While not making progress, the MC tried to hold on better than her. Forget the free pass crap. That was sophistry and was blown out of proportion and clearly not valid after 27 years of marriage. Nah her shitty attitude, lack of (shown) remorse, her lack of apology, and then tossing crap in fave with attitude and then her conversation when she just decided did to leave and blame him for the death of their marriage is simply irreconcilable. Period. Once he remembers that, there should be no hope. Think of it. Only way to land it would be to change her post discovery behavior. Have her turn herself around, get therapy, be more honest, show real remorse, but none if that happened. Well written but unwarranted ending.

I would love someone to write a really dark ending to this one.

It's hard to point any one thing as wrong when its ALL this wrong. The BBC myth; The MC who drinks too much to forget the pain he's in as opposed to taking action. I know it's a story but surely there should be a rational and justified ending and not the crap served here.

Well the author starts the story stating that the MC is hard assed and not gullible and then proceeds to prive that wrong. Turns him into a simp and a wimp. Uses every rehashed cliche about BBC, the MC drinking away jis troubles. Then he reconciles with the wife after she tells him to fuck off and he catches her dancing with another black man. Way to convoluted and forced. It's like you had 4 or 5 different stories jumbled into 1. To much inconsitences and things that were out of place.

I know if Vicky was my wife and she continue to bring up something that happens before we where even married as an excuse for her so called mistake in Tampa I don't know if I could have put up with it. Steve had every write to be pissed since she didn't care at that point if she thru away 27 years of his love and dedication just to find out how big he was, and yes black guys do seem to want to bed as many white women as they can for bragin rights and don't care if they are married or not.

Dry realistic. Real life mistakes, and but for cracking his head and that rallying everyone, including himself, it might have ended differently. I love the story.

I know this author favors reconciliations but this one was off-base. Consider, this wife was an alcoholic and mean drunk, whose actions clearly demonstrated she was not trustworthy. People with such problems generally don't seek to get help and reform without major falls that force them to face up. For this situation, it means being divorced and marginalized. Otherwise, she would not face it. Women can be every bit a mean drunk and abusive alcoholic as men can, and this wife fit that perfectly. And facilitated by her friend too. So why put up with it? A real world alcoholic would not seek treatment without a huge kick in the ass. That mean's divorce. Lord knows, I went through a wife in my late 30s not unlike this: a former college wild-child who got together with old college buddies, party drunk ,and screwed around. So I decamped with our 6 year-old, got a divorce and custody based on documenting her behavior, and remarried to a loving, dependable non-alcoholic woman who had my back. It took the Ex three more years to seek an outside program to address her drunkeness and make peace with my new family. We were still polite, but I always still thought of her as a bitch. This husband was a major FOOL.
