did you get bored toward the end you had the start of a pretty good story then fizzeled out towards the end.It wa like buying a big fire cracker expecting a big explosion and getting a little pop. I dont carwe that they got back together it just lacked all kinds of spirit try again on this one and repost.

A well written story. Not all cheating stories have to end up in revenge mode.

<br>I did not like the ending and it was not because of the reconciliation. The story ending in reconciliation was reasonably good. What I did not like was what always happens in so many reconciliation stories on this site.</br>

<br>Typically the wife is the first one to cheat due to whatever reason she is angry with her husband; and then all the husband's smart or stupid actions promulgate from that point on. It will usually make for a good story.</br>

<br>The problem is that when the reconciliation part comes the husband is always the one apologizing, the wife never really apologizes to the husband. As in this wife who just says -- 'I said that I screwed up.'-- And then she continues on to justify her actions and make further excuses for the cheating.</br>

<br>In this story, the husband was the only one who really apologized. The wife never really did. And especially in this story they both needed to apologize.</br>

<br>Just once it would be nice if the wife would apologize for her cheating. Just a simple heartfelt -- 'I am sorry dear husband for cheating on you. Whatever was wrong in our marriage did not justify my cheating.' Something along those lines would go long way to cement a reconciliation ending.</br>

middle aged crazies. Everything wrong with her is her husbands fault. Then the becomes a total tramp on the cruise and it is the husbands fault. Suddenly you run out of words and slam them back together with no real meaning or feeling. My self I would have shoved her overboard in the middle of the night and rid myself of a STD, AIDS risk for the next year. Most people would have made a log, taken pictures of her activities and divorced the slut and took away custody of the kids from her as an unfit mother. You know someone with no morals or ethics much less character.

is showing some very real ability as a story teller. This story wasn't all neat and tidy, which gave it a bit of realism. Life doesn't often go according to plan. I think we have an interesting story teller emerging on Lit and we readers should all benefit from it.

after reading the first twelve lines and almost tossed the story because I formed a strong dislike for both characters but the story was well told and structured. I find it interesting that some of the commentators seem to have a read a different story. You have to remember if the POV is one way, you see a certain story but you can only guess what is hidden from the protagonists eyes. Some people seem to always guess the worst and then declare their revelation to be true....

She cheated and is the type of person who thinks what she says is alright and does is alright but no one else is right,a truely hateful person who wants forgiveness but won't give it.

<p>I have to say it wasn't the writing that did it, this was almost 1000% fantastic.</p>

<p>I'm sorry I understand the husband's character was a tool. That's how he was designed. But she cheated on him first to get even because she disliked what he said to her. That's never a valid reactions, <i>I don't like what I hear so I'll sleep around until I feel better</i>. Then she did it with someone with an <i>open</i> marriage. The reason that is an issue is this: When a marriage is a committed one, that usually means that both mates don't have to worry about diseases or pregnancies where the husband isn't the father. But in this story it was the first point. The wife didn't know who Roger was screwing and she was willing to bring what ever she caught home to the husband with no remorse for it.</p>

<p>Then when she decided to confess it wasn't to <i>fix</i> the marriage, and seek forgiveness, but to make herself feel better for cheating. Then she got upset that her husband was doing Kathy. Instead of sitting him down, laying her cards on the table, and trying to fix the marriage from there, she went on the attack. <i>"Well Tim, how long have you been screwing Kathy?"</i> doesn't start off reconciliation to fix a marriage when you were the first one to step aboard the adultery train in the first place with <i>two</i> different people.</p>

<p>And I was kinda of curious why you missed this point in the story.</p>

<p>The husband knew about the affair because of semen stains in his wife's panties, but the wife says that Roger wore a condom. So either the wife's character lied, or she was <i>only</i> talking about the first time to lure her husband into believing that was <i>always</i> the case, or she was doing someone else. Either way the husband, in a rush to get his rocks off, totally missed or didn't care about that point. He never called her out on it, and didn't seem to care who else Roger was doing while he used his tongue on his wife, even though he commented that he didn't want Rogers seconds. I mean that is also strange since he told Kathy he was worried about <b>STD's</b>, but didn't seem to care what his wife may have brought home from having sex with a couple in an <i>Open</i> marriage.

<p>Not to mention the ploy to make him so jealous that he would take her back. She started this off by trying to prove him wrong. She could have just walked around he house in the same attire and got the same benefit without letting strange men she didn't know feel her up to make her husband jealous. This is what happened the first night she got drunk and her dress got ripped. She was letting men feel her up, and the husband got upset. Then this is used to put them back together when it worked to separate them? Doesn't work for me to be honest.</p>

<p>I didn't like the wife's character from the inception and never warmed to her through out the story at all. After her limited affair she seemed to act like that it was just something that she needed to fix herself esteem than it was a major problem that she did it.</p>

<p>- Two the husband:</p>

<p>I'm sorry, but he was an idiot.</p>

<p>I know that's how you wanted to design him, but what <i>little</i> most of what us males have learned growing up about women, he seemed to have missed that class on. I didn't see him as seeing his wife as a possession as she suggested, but I did see him as not thinking before he opened his mouth and didn't really <i>try</i> to fix the problems. The story seemed to have him doing Token efforts to fix what he broke.</p>

<p>While I'm not really a fan of revenge sex, I'll accept it if one mate totally cheats and trashes an innocent mate and this is what the <i>innocent</i> mate needs to rebuild or restore <i>their</i> self esteem, but the husband was the catalyst for destroying his wife's self esteem. Even though his wife went so far to the extreme that she wrapped on herself to get even, he could have fixed it before it got that far. But his character was too self absorbed to see it before his wife started cheating on him.</p>

<p>While I still believe that is what you were after, that killed any sympathy for his character from me</p>

<p>So now we have two character that would be better off divorced than together from what I read.</p>

<p>Then you throw in a wise old man, combined that with the husband lust for his new <i>slimmer</i> wife, and a drunken jealous rage at dinner, and you have a reconciliation, that while the husband's jealousy was the same thing that somehow drove them apart at the start of the story (and the wife went even further in her drive to drive to make him jealous. This time she was giving out naked feels to other men) and now they are back together and stronger than ever?</p>

<p>I can't see it. This is the stuff <i>nasty</i> divorces are made of.</p>

<p>I don't dislike the story because they got back together, but instead because I don't like the characters and they did nothing that made sense why they <i><b>would</b></i> be back together. Save to keep the kids from coming from a broken home. </p>

I could actually see this happening. Two hard headed people. 3 kids to keep them together. Both acting stupidly. Back together with an outsiders help. Would they make it? Dont know but thats not the story. Still has mistakes but all in all, Good Story.

I have little sympathy for the husband in this story, he's about dumb as a rock. That said, I have absolutely no sympathy for the wife who not only is dumb as a rock but is also selfish and conniving. I would in no way see that the husband (or the wife for that matter) would be better off in this marriage, they shouldn't even have gone on the cruise togather. I normally like this writter but this story wasn't one of the better efforts.

nice development as a story, but left a bit disappointed. her reason for cheating with Roger seems pretty weak. Their differences started long before. Even if she was upset before the party and angry with the event at that party, she should have listened when he tried to make up. But no, she retrieved to herself and started cheating. When he found ehr stained panties, he should have confronted her, but he didn't. He took the easy way out. I don't understand why he didn't tell her that the condom in het tale was bullshit. And I would never believe that she didn't cheat those first days at the cruise. Well whatever, he wanted her back in his life and eased up on her. It could bite him in the ass some other time later.

was that you presented two middle aged characters with a seriously flawed relationship that needed serious counseling if it was going to be saved. And while the husband said some hurtful and terrible things to his wife who clearly suffered from low self-esteem, she had not earned the right to cheat. And she cheated multiplie time with multiple partners. His solution was no better. And their contiuned lack of communication was not going to help them. His anger was justified at her cheating. Her anger was less justified at his, but still he was no better. The first night when she walked into the dining room with out her rings on - her excuse later was down right laughable - she was announcing the end of the marriage. He had every reason to assume after her behavior that night that she was done and the way she acted the next two days. The deus ex machina of the wise old man who hits him on the head would not work any miracles in life. An a couple days of non-stop sex would not solve their problems. The logical ending would have been for him to quietly get off the boat and leave her to her own devices, go home, grab the kids and move out. And her lie that she had done nothing with anyone those first two nights was too obvious. The only hope was maybe during the divorce a judge would force them into therapy, but then the wife would have to be honest and I am not convinced by your plot that she could be. Her anger issues far out wheigh his. He was job for the time she was cheating on him and acting like a cumsleeve was disgusting. You clearly wanted a happy ending, but this one makes no sense: too fast, too unblievable.

Other readers have said it better than I: writing has definitely improved from older stories, but the plot . . . pretty hard to swallow. I, too, think they should have simply divorced; I saw nothing believable in this yarn to support a reconciliation. Thanks for writing.

The characters are very hurt and at the opposite ends of the rainbow but it read well. I may not agree with how quickly they mended the fences but I do agree that they needed to take a stab at it. The problem was created long before the issue in January. But that could be for another story. Thanks for the story and keep writing.

Constructively - the talent evidenced will never balance the lack of plausibility and lack of credibility. People do stupid things but this was absurd.<P>

Different than the usual stories from Slirpuff. Not nearly as developed as he usually does his work but I'm a sucker for a happy ending.

It felt a little rushed; they went from having affairs and sniping at each other to make-up sex in a very short time. That said, you did a good job of making it clear that both realized that they had made stupid mistakes, and that it takes a willingness on both sides to work it out.

It probably would have been better if you'd had her realize her mistake of having an affair; then instead of parading around topless, just flirted casually with other people on the cruise. Also, it would have been better if, instead of reconciling right away, they spent the first night discussing their situation; each admitting what they'd done wrong, did they love each other, could they get past the pain and betrayal, agreeing to talk t a counselor, etc. Then, the night after that, they can have crazy make-up sex (It would have been nice if it was described a bit more, but it worked the way it was too).

The fast tempo of the story really illustrated how fast a couple's sniping can escalate into a downward negative spiral with neither one wanting to concede before it is too late. Unfortunately, this scenario is the exception rather than the rule. Most just give up, figuring it isn't worth it and end up just getting divorced. Very well written, to the point that when Bob slapped Tim in the back of his head to wake him up and effectively stopped the downward spiral, I felt that Tim shouldn't be the first one to concede, Ann should. So, your writing skills effectively sucked me into the negative sparring. Well done, you are definately an accomplished observer of behavior and are able to portray it very well in your writing. This author is all over the board - and most of the stories are so pathetic due to the lack of plausibility & plot mistakes. The female character was a simply a low-esteem slut wife [former village whore who finally pinned down some idiot] and the male character was the usual wimp husband that frequently is featured in the author's plots. Poor effort all around. Thanks to Harry's analysis, it was easy to spot the glaring mistakes.

Sometimes people do find a way back to each other. I've seen it happen several times. They don't always remain together and we dont know if they do after the cruise. More importantly though it's just a story. Theres no mention of the effect on the kids or how they are forced to deal with that stress at home. Theres only a little of the talk these two would need to have. Issues like the disrepect, loss of trust, hatred displayed to each other, thier kids view of them, thier friends who witnessed the original event and the gossip that spreads from there. Sorry for that long ramble, but Im just trying to point out that this is just a story and not real life. Dont go projecting your issues into it. To the author - good story I like your work, both types of endings.

...credible character development and plot. Some good dialogue. Intresting story. On the other hand, Risq did point out some problems with the characters and the plot line. I still like the story, though IRL the reconciliation would be much more difficult than indicated here.

I noticed in you beginning comments that you felt the ending was not too good. i found nothing wrong with the ending. It is nice to find some stories of this nature that actually have a good ending. Even though I have found myself drawn to some of these types of stories, I have found them more enjoyable when the characters can find a way to get back together.

I would not have taken up with Kathy but after the talk with her would have sat down with my wife and discussed everything from my feelings, attitude, her feelings, attitude AND adultery and if she was still going to be hostile or combative...Divorce!

Starting with the holes in Rogers condoms. If there were no holes why did she have semen in her panties? If he has moved on the ship and signed into another man's room, how would the purser know what to tell Ann? And why, after a head slap, would their attitudes towards each other change so radically and so quickly? I like reconciliation as much as the next person, but this was just too big a leap. No possible way they shed their anger towards one another that quickly. I find it much more likely that they would have divorced one another when they returned from their cruise. Maybe next time.

This was a great demonstration of how a marriage can dissolve because of immature people acting on their injured feelings. In "real life" the ending would have probably been quite different.
