How do I find an Editor?

If you’re an author looking for an editor to help improve your erotic story, audio script, poem, article, or other written work before publishing it on Literotica, the Literotica Volunteer Editor Program may be able to help. Our editor program is a place where volunteer editors - from a wide variety of backgrounds - offer advice and editing help to aspiring authors.

Here’s how to get started finding an editor for your work:

  • Before you contact an editor, please verify that your work meets Literotica’s Content Guidelines and Submission Guidelines. Please do not send works to editors that don’t follow our guidelines as those will be sent back to you or ignored. You may wish to browse our Writer’s Resources for tips on improving your story.

Please note that the Literotica Editors program exists to help Literotica Authors. Do not use this free community powered service to edit work intended for publication outside of Literotica.
  • After you’ve read the Guidelines, please, browse or search for an editor.
  • Once you’ve found an editor who meets your needs, use the email contact form to send a polite, friendly message describing your story or poem as well as what sort of editing you would like done (i.e. beta reading, grammar and structural editing, continuity, etc.). Be clear about the time frame within which you would like the editing to take place. Be sure to include an email address so the editor has a way to reach you.
  • The editor should contact you via email with a yes or no answer within a couple of days. If you don’t hear back after a reasonable time frame, contact us with the editor name so we know to check with the editor to make sure they’re still interested in editing.
  • Once you and the editor have agreed on the editing project and the time frame, send your work to them in one of the formats they note in their editor profile - .txt, .rtf, .doc, or pasted into an email.
  • Once the editor emails you the revised copy of the story, you will read it through before submitting it to Literotica. Be sure any non-story notes the editor has made are removed, and that you are happy with the changes. It is always nice to give credit to the editor at the beginning of the story if you’re pleased with their work (as long as the editor is comfortable with being credited - please ask beforehand). A simple ‘Thanks to EditorsName [please use their Literotica username] for editing assistance with this story’ at the beginning or end of the story works well.

Please note: editors at Literotica are volunteers, and are under no obligation to take on any story editing request they receive. If an editor says they can’t take on your piece for any reason, don’t take it personally. They receive many requests, and can’t always fit then in. You can use the program to look for another editor.

We created the Literotica Editor Support Forum specifically for our Volunteer Editors, readers, and writers to share information regarding the editing process. Feel free to ask any questions regarding the editor program in this forum, and to give advice and provide comments to other writers and editors as well.

We can all benefit from sharing our knowledge and experiences. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact us. Thanks again!
