To you all, especially AA: "Merry Christmas!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Last night, I wrote a letter,
A silly one, at that,
And I addressed it to the man
Who wears the funny hat.
You know of him, of course, you do,
A suit of red and white
Is all he wears throughout the year,
Come morning, noon and night,
A big black belt around his waist
(Of a rather substantial size,)
And boots and mitts, and a merry laugh,
And a twinkling in his eyes.
It’s said his mode of transport
Is both unique… and queer,
A sleigh that flies into the sky
Pulled by eight magic reindeer.
He travels all across the globe,
North, South and East and West,
He’ll reach all seven continents,
Never stopping for a rest.
He has a sack, a wondrous sack,
A bottomless bag of fun,
From which he draws an endless stream
Of gifts… for everyone!
He lights the joy in every heart
That has forgotten how to smile,
And if I could only meet him,
I would ask him to stay a while,
To tell him of this past year,
Why my heart has turned to stone,
The tears and fears and heartache,
That I’ve had to face... alone.
Which brings us to the letter
That I wrote to him last night,
‘Twas a very simple message
On a field of paper white.
I wrote I had, but just one wish,
The one gift I longed to see,
No need for bows or boxes,
Only you… beneath my tree.

It’s a fun poem but it also has the phrasing and quietness of Emily Dickinson - all it needed was the dashes

Dammit...

...RiverMaya, stop bringing a tear to my eye with your poetry. I'm too manly for that. But it was really fun.

Thank you.
