...what you once had...

I turned around and there she was,
More than a vision, but perhaps less than a dream,
A reluctant smile playing on lips
That seemed to beg for a kiss,
But whether from mine, I could not be sure;
I dared to ask, but she turned away,
Her only answer – a tear sliding gently down her cheek -
I reached out my hand, but she was gone,
……summer had turned cold.
