As I flick through the pages
of the story of my life
some subtle plots and nuances
can be read between the lines.

It seems now, looking backward
and following those themes through
That all my life was leading
to the day that I met you.

I won't pretend that you're my first
others came before
but looking back, they were like a lesson
guiding me to more.

We all have heard the fables
love at just one sight
The blinding flash of lightning
bringing day to darkest night

Yet to me, that's all they ever were
Stories, fables, myth
Until one day I realized,
it depends on who you're with.

You see, I started writing
as a way to tell my tale
to express my soul and feelings
but knowing I would fail

regardless how I ponder
or how hard I seem to try
There simply isn't language
to tell you what's inside.

To me you're like the morning,
as your face first meets my eye
A waking dream of summer
under endless star soaked skies

That peaceful easy feeling
at the end of the winding road
the destination, not the journey
I look at you and I'm home.

The metaphors go on like this
There is no other way
but when 'I love you' won't come close
what else is left to say?

My future isn't written yet
or at least it is unread
But I think of the life that we might have
as I lay awake in bed

I see us on a golden beach
our footsteps in the sand
the children playing in the waves
as we walk hand in hand.

Or driving through the mountains
the laughter loud and long
as we fight and argue over
which song that we want on.

Of the simple loving pleasure
of pulling you close to me
as we curl up on the sofa
and watch our new TV

Even fights will have new meaning
as we live and learn and grow
the planted seeds of future
will bloom before you know.

There's a moral to this story
I hope that you can see
That no words of mine can bring to light
just what you mean to me.

So here's to love, here's to hope
and all the things inside
It may not make the world go round
but it makes it worth the ride

What a nice way to say 'I love you' without using TheThreeWords. Very well done.
