Leaning on a parking meter
waiting for Verlaine to show
wishing for a ticket to fly.
Rogue priests with dog soldiers
whistle by, dressed in red
running to the Capitol to sell
railroad gin to bankrupt Senators.
I can't sing, they can't count,
the fires sweeping the streets
knocking everyone off their feet.
Neon lights create rainbows
in broken windows after curfew
leaving everyone hoping for rain.

I really liked some of the imagery in this.

Mentioned in New Poem Recommendations thread in Lit's Poetry Feedback and Discussion forum.
