Just what we all needed for Valentines Day...a horrible downer story. You have a twisted idea of romance. WTF.

Damn! Heck of thing to read before breakfast. Good story, real tear jerker though.

I caught it right away but I thought it was going to be of a soldier/sailor last family moments before shipping out. Either way the story is very poignant - life is but a fleeting moment. Hope he lasts long enough to hold his son and get that special picture/video for his son.

With the techno world we live in today, mom/dad, grandma/pa don't waste time, when will the next Covid-19 hit?!? Make video messages to your kids. Give them something to remember of YOUR person, YOUR voice, YOUR mannerisms, YOUR beliefs. Burn your MP4's to DVD and put them in your Safety Deposit box with instructions on the sleeve cover. Don't waste you moments - very few of us get to know when it will happen so plan for it being next week - you can always update your MP4's.

Don't know if knowing when the end is coming is a good thing or a bad thing. Hopefully it gives enough time to make things right, but the pending end can be bitter-sweet. Most times the end comes and the only time we have to make things right is how we live, and then we are gone. Both are hard to deal with but I don't think it's ever easy. Good story, short and very moving. Thanks

Fantastic. Instead of a challenge, this should have been a contest.

To the Anon who called this a twisted idea of romance - love is not just about the good times and sexual passion but truly comes to the fore when comforting and helping a loved one through bad times. Comforting and helping a dying person is one of the greatest expressions of love that there can be, as this story well illustrates. Very sad but also very romantic.

This is the best 750 word story I have read.

I believe it's far more difficult to build a 750 word story than a 50K novel.

AND... Lit is probably one of the best proving grounds for writers, as so many commentators weigh in, and some comments are actually helpful!

And, you don't have to submit your hard work to "publishers " until you can afford to.
