"Long live the king..." As the caretaker smiled in his victory, the tiger general finally lost his composure, quickly struck forward, and snapped the buck's neck with a swift movement. Javis fell limp, and the general seethed, robbed of his amusement... Robbed of hearing that beast scream as he burned with the walls he had helped such weakness to grow within. The tiger snarled in anger, but the buck was already at peace. Javis had done his part, and it was time for some well earned rest... His three boys could handle things from there.

First, clarifications for last chapter. Aster did not compare Oust to Stahl at any time during the scene. That was my description to try and give you an idea of what Oust was working with, not the human's own thoughts. Aster was pretty well focused on Oust then. Aster gave you plenty of valid reasons to be angry with him, but that one was my bad on wording. Ill fix it with the official rewrite of book 1.

Now, for this chapter... Yes, Stahl crossed a lot of lines. Some would say downright abusive. This is their first major argument, and he lost his temper among his insecurity and he said some really hateful shit that he's going to regret. But there was a lot of truth behind that anger as well... Something I myself have done when I was young and found myself in a similar situation as the wolf. Byron Aschefell will be giving better insight to this family trait in a coming chapter, as the rest of the Aschefell mystery is revealed. Learning to control a temper like that takes a lot of effort, and practice.

The point is, neither are entirely in the right, neither are entirely wrong. Both have faults, just like the real damn world. The next chapter, they have some very raw, emotional, and real conversations between them... and yes, conversations, not screaming matches that such arguments can easily start as... Because that's what led to this whole fiasco anyway, not communicating their true feelings. Give. Me. Time. Please. Let me show you what I'm doing.

I know these chapters are kinda bummers right now, but there are good things coming. I hope I was clear on describing the fissure. I felt I couldn't word it correctly no matter what. Oh, and Flose can speak to feral animals per their bloodskill. Idk if I made that clear enough either. (Yes, Aster's conversation with Oust before Stahl showed up will be talked about next chapter too.)

Sorry, just trying to make sure I tell a story you enjoy. Lot of moving pieces colliding right now, and it's a low point for many of these characters. Thanks again for the patience, and feedback. I always appreciate hearing it. If you have any questions, or want any clarifications, feel free to ask! Thank you for reading!

Don't worry Gem... This is THE plot point. It's all coming to a head soon. Everything will be connected shortly. Everything will be answered. Chapter 35 at the absolute latest. More than likely, chapter 32 or 33. I have a few scenes to fill in first. But 95% of my groundwork is already laid now.

28/29 will officially be a double chapter, We will be seeing a few of those as we push on to the later chapters here. I'm making great time though, as I've been building this conversation with elements all the way from the beginning, and have been preparing to handle it properly.

The real jaw droppers are coming shortly. ;) I can't wait to finally reveal the answers to your guesses!

(Yes, Stahl 100% has a claim to the sword. But you'll get clarification there as well.)

I don’t think either Stahl or Aster is painted the bad guy here. They both fucked up. What I had to re-read a couple times is the demon-master-Cortist conversation.

“And yet, even still, you glaze over Talan's transgressions, even as I point them out as the root cause to those problems... I understand... He is your real brother after all." Cortist froze... Surely that wasn't it... Surely... The panther sputtered to answer.”

GODDAMN. One of many brutal truths.

I think this story is very well-written, and although I’m a tad worried about yet another character and plot point being introduced, I trust that you know what you’re doing, @PupBayou. I’m willing to give you time.

So, Aster’s the shield and he has to make a crucial choice. Stahl is the sword, and he has to learn to master himself way faster than his dad had to. The chasm is a massive-ass drop, and I worry about the lion king without his most faithful, strong and wise followers.

Stahl's reaction was a real and valid one. Did he go too far in anger considering he wouldn't just tell Aster how he really felt? Yes. Did Aster do this all wrong? Yes. Did Oust have a hand in that? Yes. Is all of this going to be discussed? Yes.

I'm not painting any one person as the bad guy, certainly not solely Stahl. Everyone had faults here. I spent plenty of time trying to show how each of these conflicts were building. Stahl was jealous and scared, but didn't say anything until after the fact. Aster pursued Oust without discussing it properly with Stahl, to have a more recent conversation about what those limits were.

Idk about yall, but usually when i had disagreements with a partner, we both were wrong in different ways leading up to things like this. Thats all i was trying to do...

Because as much as Stahl Aschefell wants to be the perfect mate for his human... He's not perfect. And Aster is still pretty naive... hes been in the world maybe 2 months, and still figuring things out. Especially since he witnessed his first kiss merely 5 weeks before they were sent to that desert anyway.

All of these points are discussed in plenty of ways. Ill tell you now, chapter 27 will prob be one of the longest yet. Im 6k words in, and still have a lot to cover. Please, just let me show you how i handle this.

I just ask that y'all give me time.

Understood

Not arguing that you need conflict for resolution, but painting Stahl as the antagonist for reacting poorly to his mate sleeping with someone else without discussion is in poor taste. I defy the general population to HONESTLY answer that they would do differently, and this coming from someone who ha had open relationships, poly situations, and multiple, separate partners. Truth will out, and Aster did this horribly wrong, no matter Stahl's angered responses lashing at out the one who wounded him. Necessary or not to the story, Aster is in the wrong here - and anyone who wants to say "they never talked about exclusivity!" Look up wolves and mates, then shut the fuck up.
