A Monster Life Ch. 88-90

*I reached a milestone with writing chapter 100 of this series, making it more than 300.000 words at the minimum of 3000 a chapter, and not counting the bonus chapters.

I have no idea how much more will follow, but there are still plenty more events and characters to come (pun unintentionally intended).

I've also drawn a few more quick portraits of the characters, which I'll post as well.

88 - A Quick Walk

The party halted their capri at a lake after a day's ride. Ulric and Susi stepped off of Harry and stretched their legs. 'I think we're far enough from those vampires now for my comfort.'

Elzbieta looked over the lake and the far side covered with forest. 'Yes. This also seems too nice a place to not take the time to enjoy it for a short while, darling.'

Iphigenia stretched with her hands up in the air and moaned. 'I can definitely do with some time off. As comfortable as it is to ride our capri, sitting still for a long time is murder on my body.' She gave Ulric a sly smile. 'Although I'm sure you have a cure for that, Wolfie.'

He grinned and growled a little playfully. Camp was set up quickly, and Valdys checked up on Handil after she was laid down on a thick and soft underground of pillows and blankets. Ulric went up to her and Rachael, who sat at her side. 'How's she doing?'

Valdys slowly poured a strengthening potion made by Kaui and reinforced with her binding spell into Handil's mouth. 'She hasn't regained her conscious yet as you can see, but her condition hasn't become worse. Her recovery is progressing slowly.'

'Anything more we can do?'

Valdys looked at him. 'It's all up to her now, but it'll help if we can stay here for a while and lessen the burden of travel.'

He nodded. 'Yeah, I think we can stay here for now..' he said, and sniffed the air for prey. 'I'll go and hunt for some fresh meat with Susi on the other side of the lake.'

Susi ran energetically at his side on their way to the forest side. 'Susi loves hunting with daddy!'

Her joy lifted his still dark mood from leaving behind a mess, and he sniggered. He noticed she had grown again, even if it wasn't quite apparent. "They grow up fast." he thought, but also expected it from a predator species.

He let her chase the prey and drive it towards him waiting in ambush, and killed them with a fast hit breaking their necks. She sat wagging her tail while he tied the deer and boar together in a bundle to carry it all back to camp, then pat her head. 'You did very well, honey.'

Susi rubbed her cheek against his chest. 'Susi will always do her best for daddy.'

He cuddled her and kissed the top of her muzzle. 'You're such a good girl.' he said, and sat with her for a moment in the gentle quiet of a breeze and relaxing trickle of a nearby small stream ending in the lake, and wondered if the likes of the original owner of his body also had moments where he simply took in the wonders of the wild landscape. He hoped the world would stay as green as it was forever.

He nudged Susi's muzzle with his, who had snuggled tight against him. 'Time to return and eat, honey.'

She rubbed her cheek against his chest again. 'Susi wishes she could stay longer with daddy.'

He chuckled softly and pat her head. 'We still have to cook before we can eat, and I'm beginning to feel hungry already. Besides, we're staying here for now, so we'll have more time to relax.'

She nodded slowly and reluctantly pulled away. 'Okay, daddy. Susi does want to eat too.'

Ulric carried everything on his back, and Elzbieta and Kaui went to work on preparing the prey as soon as they arrived at the camp. He sat next to Iphigenia, who took care of her weapons, and silently watched her work. She glanced sideways at him. 'You're a little down, Wolfie.'

He let out a soft sigh. 'I'm not happy with the situation we left behind, and the danger Kaui and the others went through, with Handil almost dying if it wasn't for Valdys and her knowledge.'

She put away her clean sword and ran her fingers slowly through his neck fur. 'We did the best we could under that volatile situation. I think something bad was about to happen anyway with such internal strife.'

'Yeah, but we kind of triggered it to happen at that time.'

She caressed his ear. 'Many things have been triggered with your arrival.'

'Unfortunately.'

She pulled his muzzle towards her. 'I don't think so, sweet Wolfie.' she said, and kissed him. 'I think we can avoid things becoming worse because you're here. And I'm very happy to have met you, as is every one of us who loves you.'

He smiled softly at her and kissed her. 'Although I didn't know what to think when I first came here, I am now also happy that I did.'

She ruffled the top of his head. 'Rest now and let what happened drift from your mind, Wolfie, you still have to charge most of our tallies soon.' she said, and giggled.

He sniggered and nudged her playfully. 'You're just using it as an excuse to fuck me.'

She grinned wide. 'So what if I do? You're not stopping me.'

'Oh, I'd be a giant fool if I did.' he said, and laughed more freely.

After a hardy meal, Ulric went up to Kaui and Isazea, who were discussing possible combinations of their abilities. 'Mind if I join you for a moment, my lovelies?'

They smiled at him. 'Of course not, Master.' said Kaui.

He sat down in front of them and rested his paws on one of their knees. 'How're you two doing? I imagine what happened was quite a shock to you.' He looked at Isazea. 'Especially for you.'

She looked down and gave a quick nod. 'I didn't know what to do.'

Ulric rubbed her knee gently. 'I was afraid something like this might happen when you joined us. You were already involved in a couple of fights, and I worry it's too stressful for you. I don't want to see you succumb to it, so if you want to leave, tell me at any time.'

She looked up and laid her hand on his paw. 'I don't regret anything, my dear wolf.'

'Are you sure?'

She gave him a warm smile. 'Yes. I feel more at home now than I've been in years holed up in my workshop.'

'I know how she feels, Master.' Kaui said as her eyes turned from Isazea to Ulric. 'Even when it seemed we might have been better off staying where we were or finding a new place to live, we are at home with you and the others.' She exchanged a look with Isazea. 'We will not leave your side, no matter what dangers come at us.'

Isazea added a firm nod in confirmation.

Ulric leaned forward on his knees, and kissed them both. 'I'm really honoured to have you beautiful girls by my side. I don't have the words of a poet, but I'm so glad I can love you.'

They blushed and Kaui giggled. She looked away. 'Speaking of loving us, Master.' she said softly.

He chuckled. 'Does my little cutie need something from her master?'

She nodded lightly and glanced quickly at him, blushing even harder. No matter how secure she knew her bond with him was, she still felt as shy as their first time being intimate. 'May I receive your love inside me, Master?'

She nodded once quickly. It took courage for her to ask, but she thought it was the best time since she shared similar feelings as Kaui, and likely wouldn't have dared at a later moment. She was happy he pulled on her hand as he stood up.

Ulric looked at Valdys, who looked at him at that moment. 'Girls, I'm going to take Kaui and Isa for a walk.'

Valdys giggled. 'You don't mean, they're going to take you for a ride?'

The girls in the bond giggled out of nowhere in the eyes of their unbound party members. Tipper glanced at Yingshien. 'Told you there's something going on between them when they act all weird at the same time like this.'

Yingshien huffed slightly. 'I've never met or heard of people like them, but my mother wouldn't have trusted them if there wasn't a very good reason.' She looked up at the late afternoon sun while her chest tightened and her thoughts returned to her abandoned home. "I swear I will return one day, and avenge you and all our people, and take back our country, mother." she thought. "I don't know how yet, but I will."

Ulric walked paw in hand with his two little lovers along the bank of the lake, until they arrived at a pleasant and secluded spot far enough to be out of earshot. Flowering bushes with a few bees buzzing around provided a soothing background noise along with small birds chirping in the trees surrounding the grassy clearing. Kaui laid out a couple of blankets she had taken along in her satchel, which she had also used to gather ingredients along the way. She had caught herself being excited about the find of some herbs, to the amusement of the other two, but Ulric kissed her forehead and said it was part of why she was so adorable.

89 - Blood Runs Deep

Tarrence halted the party at a suitable camp site in the late afternoon. The shallow hollow in the ground and the tall shrubbery surrounding it would conceal them from prying eyes for the most part, although he didn't really expect anyone to be anywhere near them in the wide area. 'We'll rest here.' he said, and dismounted his nasr.

The others followed and tied up their riding birds to a nearby tree stump, where the animals had enough freedom to move around. Muni spotted hares and a few wild sheep in a field at a short distance, and dropped his pack at the side. 'I'm going to nab some fresh meat. I'm tired of the dried stuff.'

Coëllo put her pack next to his. 'I'll come along. I want to see which one of us is better at hunting.'

He glanced back at her while he took off anything he didn't need, apart from his dagger. 'Heh, you're always welcome to lose to me.'

She stretched her legs. 'Too bad for you that it'll never happen.'

He went towards the field. 'Let's see how big your mouth is afterwards.'

Elyta watched them leave in mild amusement, and picked a good spot for her to sleep in. When she finished laying out her blanket, she noticed Tarrence was gone, and Gigacks was lost in one of the few books which were interesting enough to take with him from the tower. She didn't expect the knucklehead duo to return soon with their catch, and looked around for a source of water to preferably take a swim, or at least wash herself properly after missing out in the last few days. A stream caught her eye in the opposite direction of the field with sheep, between scattered trees and bushes, and she took off most of her clothes, and walked towards it.
