I still don't know what is going on. The accused has major memory lapses?

The first chapter built up a wonderful premise, and left it at an absolute cliffhanger.

This chapter adds nothing. It moves the story forward without adding any new details or intrigue. Merely talks about events that take it forward, while repeating information we already know.

It should have been part of a bigger chapter that added more to the story.
