This Was OK...

...but it had a slight ESL feel about it. Maybe it was just the boys' names, but I don't think that was all. Dunno, something just not quite right.

That's an interesting take. I'm a native English speaker so I'm not sure where that feeling comes from. I was consciously going for a kind of heightened reality feeling, so maybe that has something to do with it? In any case I don't think there are serious grammatical or vocabulary issues but please do let me know if you find any!
