"Today, Ria is to be taken away from me because father screwed up and needs more slaves as numbers. Ria has not known hard labour. She has not been bred simply to produce children as slaves. Today, all that will change for her and I will never see her again.

"Even though I deal with slaves everyday, I never understood what it is to be a slave. Today, I understand. Like Ria, I will be sold to another and be used as breeding stock. Of course, unlike Ria, I will be legitimate wife. But that doesn't change the fact that I will have no choice in the matter.

"I cannot save myself, but maybe I can save Ria. If you promise to take her with you, I will help you get whatever it is you are looking for," Aurelia said.

"Why would you trust me?" the figure asked.

"Two swords," Aurelia said. "No one on this planet carries two swords like that. But I have seen a vid of a combat with a woman who carried two swords. She killed the Handren Company Death Games Champion."

"Hamden Colden, yes," the figure replied.

"I know that if I ask this of you, you will do it," Aurelia stated. "I know why you are here, and I approve, even though it means that my family will suffer in the short term.

"Will you give me your word to help Ria?" Aurelia more begged than asked.

"Yes."

Aurelia nodded, hugged Ria, and told her to wait in the hall outside of her father's study. She approached the door, ready to use her comp to open it, and thought better of it.

The figure seemed to smile.

"You are an intelligent one," said the figure. "Your family is foolish to marry you off."

The figure did something in front of the contact plate and the door beeped, indicating it was unlocked. They entered the study.

Aurelia sat at her father's desk and opened the computer. It was child's play for her to get into it, having sat by her father many times as he opened and closed the devices on his desk.

Once it was open, she stood up and let the other sit. She watched as the person went into the personnel files and found all the records on salves, specifically Union slaves. Aurelia nodded her head, her suspicions confirmed.

The figure downloaded several files and then shut down the computer.

"Wait here for five minutes then leave," the figure ordered. "You sent Ria on an errand and she never returned, do you understand?"

Aurelia nodded, and the figure left. Aurelia waited the time and left the study. On the floor she saw Ria's dressing gown. A single tear fell from Aurelia's eye as she picked it up. She hoped beyond all hope that she hadn't sent Ria to her death.

I love the story! However there are some issue, just like there are in all stories. I'll give some constructive feedback now.

Some of the paragraphs need to be split up and simplified, because they're unreadable.

As in, it's impossible for the human brain to store all of those specific details in memory at once.

For example:

"Cmdre. Dostier was talking to seven ship's captains in a borrowed conference room. Four of the captains were hers, Capt. Beverly Davis, commanding NS Pegasus, Fairling Class (Refit) Frigate, Cdr. George Drake, commanding NS Panther, Whippet Class (Refit) Escort Vessel, Cdr. Sarah Verdin, commanding NS Corsair, Whippet Class (Refit) Escort Vessel. Then there was Capt. Nigel Green, commanding NS La Plume, Fairling Class Frigate, and Capt. Kelly Martin, NS Norton, Fairling Class Frigate, the two Fairling Class Frigates that FAdm. Holstern had ordered to the system to relieve the NS Dewfall of its burden of prisoners. The last of her ship's captains were Capt. Henadi Noor of the NS Dewfall and Lt. Joyce Nyalla, commanding NS Styles Dixon, Valour Class and Dostier's personal transport."

To you, the reader of this comment: You just passed over that without reading it; didn't you?

From the beginning, I have felt I was reading another story by W.E.B. Griffin; one of my favorites. Keep up the great work.

Have you considered post the story on other sites that don't have this Admin bureaucracy such has stories online, Wattpad or Inkitt? I believe all those sites don't require this overhead.
