He should have married her. That would have made the story great. Also, did not like his attitude just because his lover was a servant. After all, she was his lover.

One, the guy was not abusive to the woman at all. In fact, he was looking out for her pleasure too, most of the time which doesn't happen in Indian settings. His attitude was very nice towards someone who was his inferior in socioeconomic place. He respected her and pleasured her. Both of them knew their boundaries.

Second, he realized fully that the child was his and the woman realized it too. She didn't ask for any compensation but he offered it anyway as he mentioned in the story. If he has more responsibility, so does the woman. At least he tried to be responsible! So stop cursing him and write your own story if this one rankles you so much.

One of the qualities of a good story is that it compels you to read it till the end and you feel some emotions towards one or all of its characters, I was compelled to read from beginning to the end without skipping a para.
