In a different draft of what eventually became Becoming Monsters, this was the prologue of a different style of story. Decided I didn’t like that direction, but repurposed it after a bit of tweaking to make it fit with the current story.

Ads a much more ominous tone to the level of hammer Church can bring down.

Sets him up as a, if not the, majour bad guy. I was thinking he was going to eventually wind up as a low level hindrance, or background threat, as the dungeon group was formed. This looks a lot bigger and front and centre. I'm guessing he's at least local mob boss level, if not much bigger.
