All Comments on 'Bent Backwards Ch. 07'

Ethan is so damn unlikeable in this Backward series. I am blown away that this is the case. Despite his intense and undeniable obsession with Oliver, he is the most selfish asshole in the way he is treating both Oliver and Liza. He is lying his ass off but mostly to himself. There is no way that what he feels is not love yet he actively avoids the mere possibility of that. Even when he knows that Oliver is saying it over and over and now really hurting as a result, he refuses to even speak like an adult. He spews the Liza plan (which he is so unfairly not committed to which sucks for her - if she only knew!). And then his only response to Oliver’s array of emotions is “shut the fuck up” and “don’t be a bitch”??! There is a special type of suffering that is due to a person as selfish and heartless as Ethan has been. I wonder how he will suffer in Chap 8. We know how Oliver unravels but I hope it is FAR worse for Ethan. And that surprises the shit out of me because I loved and rooted for them in the Bend series, but at this point he deserves exactly whatever - and much more - is coming at him.

I have to say I'm really enjoying seeing this story from Ethan's perspective. I always knew he was fighting his own issues in the Bent series, but I love the way you haven't just regurgitated the same story and have worked to create two different characters between Oliver and Ethan. Really enjoying it and can't wait to see how Ethan copes away from Oliver in the next chapter

Ok. So I’m trying really hard to rally behind Ethan but it is damn hard. He’s been with Liza a long time and it’s not easy to just walk away. I am so proud of Oliver for leaving it’s the best thing he could’ve ever done for himself. I am absolutely in love with your writing and these characters. I’m hoping chapter 8 brings a lot of pain and grief for Ethan because he deserves it. He doesn’t deserve to just win his love because he’s tortured Oliver enough. Amazing story so well written the best on the site ❤️

For many of us, the journey to who we are and what we want is torturous: it takes time, sometimes way too much time, and, sadly, sometimes the journey is never completed; there are advances and retreats and sometimes, unfortunately, just surrender to something we’re not; and there is pain and suffering, both for the person on the journey and for those encountered on the way. For me, I like the journey these boys are on, and it strikes me as real. Perhaps it’s because I was Ethan; I was engaged when I met my man, I resisted the force pushing us together as hard as I could for as long as I could, and I broke (and broke others) when I couldn’t resist any longer, gave in, and admitted that the lies I told myself to explain/justify my actions were, in fact, lies.

So good. You are such a great writer that I really feel this conflict and also their strong, irresistible connection.

I absolutely love this story! I’m so glad you’re telling Ethans side!! One of my favourite parts is when common sense, the dreamer and the dick start arguing :) The dicks point of view always makes me laugh. I can’t wait for the next chapter and for all the other stories I hope you’ll write

Thanks for all the comments - especially to the person who made the response to the first comment. Thank you for explaining how you feel and for describing your experience. I think your experience closely mirrors what I'm trying to describe for Ethan. I don't think he's behaving well, by any means, but I also don't think that he's a monster. Far from it.

I think, the biggest lies we ever tell, are the one's we tell ourselves.

If all the characters were lovey dovey and perfect all the time how BORING would the story be! I love a story with realistic and complicated characters - and Ethan is a great character, I actually prefer this series to the original but maybe bc I love the drama 🤪

Fact that he was with his girlfriend for a long time and he was friends with Oliver ex-girlfriend

The character development is soo-oo good. How sad that Ethan doesn’t even know himself. “Of all the words of Mice and Men, the saddest are “it might have been.” Great writing.
