But as a reader, I'm so embarrassed for Kristin at the end, that I can't imagine much coming about that will stop her being the laughing stock of the police force.

Other than being more adolescent than necessary to get the point across, it looks like the start of an interesting story. Unless the vamp really is thirteen years old.
