"I'm surprised the pilot is still alive. Without Vortex shielding, the radiation should have killed her," the Comms Officer said to no one in particular. "The radiation from those engines might have protected her," Chief Engineer Zoazhis pointed out. "With her body in stasis, then it is very likely that she was protected during the vessel's journey through the Vortex," before she could continue, the team leader's voice returned.
"Captain," the team leader sounded excited, "we've checked the stasis pod, and the pilot is a male!"
