Two things:
1. You posted your comment on the wrong story.
And 2. You misunderstood the passage you're referring to. It's not a comparison. In the story you're referring to (Gothic Persuasion), "Saying my sister is a slut, is like saying the sun is dim" is a statement of obvious fact. OF COURSE the sun is far more brilliant than "dim", therefore to say that the sun is dim is a vast undervaluing of its brilliance, and in conclusion, the sister is being called a slut would be a vast understatement.
I hope that clears that up for you.
