"You don't have to wait for me," I said. The wind picked up as I spoke. The breeze cut through my unfastened shirt—the corner lifted and exposed my stomach. I tried to clutch my shirt together as shivers ran down my back.
"Oh, I don't want to miss this," said Matt. He walked towards the school at the same pace, but kept a modest distance between us. There would be no solidarity.
The bell rang as I entered lobby. I had 5 minutes to get to my Etiquette and Personal Care class.
My phone vibrated. I welcomed the distraction my phone would bring. I flicked through my messages, then opened Instagram. The first thing I noticed was the new follower notification. I tapped icon with my finger, careful to hold my blouse together in the process. Someone named Justin had followed me. Who? I clicked the profile. Something about his eyes caused recognition to dawn inside me. Anxiety engulfed me.

You can really see how Jessie's world is changing and her mentality with it.
Old Jess with her confidence and pride is slowly fading away as her freedoms have.
New Jess just had to give a non-consensual blowjob and consider it a "win" because Matt didn't get her pregnant.
The reality of her new life is already forcing phycological changes that are narrowing her world as much as the legal changes are.
