Steve is devastated by a divorce but it's inconsequential as he's spending the next eight years in jail for his work behind the scenes of Louie's whorehouse. Louie gets the maximum sentences for pimping and extortion.
Celeste is convicted of prostitution, sentenced to 90 days in jail and the maximum fine. The police had all the evidence they needed but, out of compassion for Hal and her blackmail, offered her a reduced sentence if she testified against Steve and Louie. She refused.
Once released, with no hope of legitimate work and no other contacts for illegitimate work, Celeste begs Hal to reconsider and take her back. Stunned Celeste can be so clueless, Hal refuses and admits to reporting the prostitution ring to the police. Infuriated, she attacks him and is arrested for assault and imprisoned for six months. Once released, she started working for a pimp referred to her by another inmate.
Celeste did stop contacting him, fearing he'd report her to the police again.
The last time Hal saw Celeste was at a local business convention. A new supplier looking to increase their chances of landing customers, hired Celeste's escort agency to service prospective customers in their private suite in the conference hotel.
