Coming along nicely

The author is doing a fine job. She's has the flavour of the times down well.

And she's doing a great job with the characters, having them grow up as they start out on the adventure of their lives together.

Well done.

Fine, but...

The story is interesting, but I believe it lacks for historical correctness. I joined the Army during WWII and was a career soldier. I never heard of the Army providing any living accommodations for wives of enlisted men. Remember, the privates in 1941 were paid $21 a month. The higher enlisted ranks could apply for a dependent's living allowance, which wasn't much, but they were on their own to find a place to live. In most cases, they would just rent a room in a nearby civilian home, if they could find one. I knew one couple who actually lived in a chicken coop.

The train trip was cute, but the Army would never have provided a ticket for the private's wife. I'll not belabour the technical errors about NYC and the train station, but the author should have mentioned they had to change trains and stations in Chicago. It was a famous saying back then: "The pigs don't have to change trains in Chicago, but the people do!"
