Saint Gary to the rescue! Is he the ONLY one that has to suffer just so Jessie can get better? Jessie's parents just seem to get of scot-free for perpetuating the sickness in their daughter, and whoever is the real father of Jessie's unborn child got a free fuck and no repercussions.

I understand the marriage contract states "in sickness and in health, for better or for worse" and all that, but doesn't the same contract also stress fidelity? But I guess Saint Gary doesn't care about any of that...

There is a basic story here. The wife has had a breakdown and treats the husband like shit. No need to drag this out. She either recovers with his help, sues the company for sexual harassment or he does what he should have 4 chapters ago. Divorce her and marry the schoolteacher.

I'm really enjoying this trip. It's slow, to be sure, but the exploration of an actual reason why a loving wife might cheat, is quite a ride. Mental illnesses are serious, and are devastating to any relationship. I know from firsthand experience...

He isn't a wimp. If he was, he'd be sitting in a chair watching her with some smarmy asshat like Snyder in bed. He loves her, plain and simple. Even if she's a total bitch to him, he still wants her to get better. I think their marriage could still come to an end, but it really depends on Jessie letting him back in 100%.

Sorry but I don't see this as a nine chapter story. The whole thing could have been covered in one maybe two.

Not interesting. 7 pages of the same crap over and over but nothing happens. Doesn't anyone remember what a slut she is? Marriage not worth saving and she is the corporate whore! I saw the pregnancy coming and now I see the other female lawyer documenting a 'hostile-work-environment' and what it's done to Jessy. Jessy being with child just ads to the case and then being emotionally and professionally minimized by the firm will just further this case.

I do not see any benefit to Jessy enduring all this workplace harassment but I see it as pushing her towards a total mental meltdown forcing her into becoming institutionalized for some period killing her law profession and further devastate her family.

What is missing is the cause-n-affect Jessy's mental state is having upon her three daughters. Can Gary keep his daughters safe and clear inside that hostile home environment - I think not.

Then at her age the complications of having a baby, being on some drugs, drinking, poor nutrition, and her emotional state --- what affects will that have on a developing baby - best hope is for a miscarriage as Jessie's temperament/bi-poler-OCD has her ill equipped to handle any adverse baby health issues.

My fondest hope is the baby is perfect that turns Jessy into a nurturing adjusted mother; the female partners win the multi-million harassment suite allowing both to retire in comfort on their terms. But life often sucks and fairy-tales don't happen.

this is obviously heading to a RAAC. The tired counselor/psychiatrist trope is annoying.

While I appreciate your time and effort you've put into your work, I feel like I'm being used. Part of my brain is telling me that there's 2 chapters of material here, with no ending, that's being s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out for as long as possible, until your readers realized they're being conned. Rarely someone has written on mental illness. And when divorce is not an option. How about adding narsicist personality disorder and smaller age kids.

Great stories. Short on clichés, though.

I have enjoyed many, but by no means all, of corvohi's stories. This one is, I think, his worst. He set himself a difficult, perhaps impossible, task with the very, very hard to like or respect main characters.

Ya know all that fucked up mess of story and characters and events that was going no where? It is all approaching the neck of the funnel. We'll see what, if anything, makes it through. Given carvohi's talent, I see a good denouement, where the major strings of this tangled mess become clear.

Jessie is strange. And certainly suffering from an illness. But Gary is the real mystery character. The poor dumb ass can't even get his dog to obey him. So, he does what Gary has always done: packs up his gear and goes home. Silently, quietly, seemingly with no rancor. He almost has a Forrest Gump quality about him. As if, after one of Jessie's tirades, he just thinks/says, "I gotta go pee".

I'm still trying to reconcile the wimp/wuss Gary with the one that now sets improbable boundaries with Jessie. He tells his D to tell Jessie that he expects her to pick him up at dunkin'. He waits 4 hours so he can then say 'you ran away'.

I'm with ribnitin. I'm enjoying every chapter of your story. I can't even begin to think I understand Jessie but I can see Gary's position very well. He.wants to help fix her,.but is.conflicted about whether he can stay married. Two chapters to go and I wish there were more.

The damn compass is windmilling -- there's clues somewhere in the story and I just can't find them - still kinda feel mother & childhood have screwed her mind -- somehow!

in chapter two you wrote, He'd lost Daisy, she was still alive, but nowhere near him so he acquired another lab through animal rescue; he hoped he'd be able to get it ready for hunting in the fall.

In this chapter you wrote, He bribed Daisy with some left over steak, and together they took off for the state park where he kept the pram, he had an electric motor for it.

I can tell you from first-hand experience mental illness in a spouse is one hard row to hoe. The story does seem to be a little long-winded but I do understand that sometimes you have to build a characters background. just hope they find the peace that they need whether it's together or separate. I give it about a four out of five.

It sets a certain tone that makes this story work.
