Very well done. The only flaw is that the story changes from letter writing to narrative from the mother's point of view without a proper transition. You might have started the story with a few sentences from the mother, to establish that she is the narrator. Then there can be the exchange of letters. When she resumes the story after the letters end, it will not be such a jolt to the reader.

I wish though that people would make it clear in their bios which gender they are, as I much prefer to read what the females have to write about on this most sexy of subjects (because I'm a horny guy). "Stevie" sounds feminine; but still, I suspect you're a dude. Also, age should be stated, too.

One little criticism I have with your fine work is that I think it would have made more sense if Mom's style of writing wasn't exactly the same as her Son's, for obvious reasons. Other than that, it had a nice flow and was pretty cool, fer sure!:-)
