The downbeat ending is perfect for the story, and is what makes it original and interesting. The readers on Lit are used to pure fantasy, where everything turns out the way they want. Your writing is better than most of what is on the site, and so is your imagination.

I liked it- a lot.(and yeah I got the "how could you DO that?" when the character in one story found out about the death of the spouse.

Hang in there- and a second chapter may come- or not. If it does, I am sure it will be just as good.
