It had been a triumphant and yet bitter sweet moment, one Dahl heard second hand from Sarah, one of the Junior Doctors.

Jessica had managed to expertly put Liz in her place, without allowing an inkling of scandal to attach itself to the story and told her if her gossiping continued to the level of causing issues for staff or patients, (especially when she didn't know what the hell she was talking about), she would soon find herself without any job related gossip at all.

Liz had been decidedly quiet ever since and only began to grumble about the doctor once she knew she wasn't going to be around for a while.

Dahl couldn't help feeling frustrated that Jessica had indeed managed to stand her ground and pacify Liz meaning they could have continued with their affair but she also knew it was more complicated than that. She tried her best to understand Jessica's position but it was difficult to maintain without further conversation and that was something they'd not had since they'd split.

The few days after their kiss in the lift and before she'd taken time off Jessica had been very out of character with almost everyone around her. Usually the doctor was incredibly patient but her fuse seemed to have shortened somewhat and it had not gone unnoticed by others.

Jessica ended up being absent for a month and when she returned she looked gaunt and tired. Her patience with others had improved a little though and she seemed to have regained her interest in her work. However rumours had begun to flit about the department that there was trouble at home. Dahl tried to ignore them, putting them down to Liz stirring things again but she also couldn't help but wonder if there was any element of truth. She thought about messaging Jessica but in the end resisted, knowing she would not get a reply. If it was true she had to hope that she'd just tell her in her own time.

Another month passed and Jessica, although still a little subdued, appeared to be coming out of the mist. She'd been into Dahl's office a few times recently and even though it'd had always been because she'd needed her help with something, she'd also found the odd reason to linger now and then and they'd gradually worked their way back to finding something that resembled a working relationship.

****

By the last Friday of the following month Dahl was exhausted and ready for the break. Her and Jessica had yet to have any kind of discussion other than work and she'd resigned herself to that fact that it was indeed over. Feeling a bit low about that she decided to pack up a bit early and head home, the most important things were done and anything else could wait till the following week.

She was planning on spending most of the weekend at the studio working on her new sculpture but tonight was about some much needed R&R. Gin, nachos, chocolates, trashy TV, you name it she was doing it.

On her way out she passed Jessica in the corridor who gave her, what Dahl considered to be, the first genuinely happy smile she'd seen on her face in months. Dahl couldn't help but smile back.

"Hey"

"Hey...you heading out?"

"Yeah, I'm exhausted..."

The doctor smiled at her again, a really kind and warm smile. There was something else there too but Dahl couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"You seem...happy?" Dahl stated, realising she was surprised, annoyed and glad about it all at the same time.

"I am" replied the doctor, giving Dahl another heartfelt smile.

"Why?"

Dahl instantly regretted the harshness with which she threw that question at Jessica but also realised her annoyance at the doctors happiness was actually more like anger. How could she be happy? Dahl wasn't.

The doctor didn't react to it though. She continued to look at Dahl with her unexplained joy.

"I'll tell you later" she said.

"Later?" Dahl frowned.

"Yes, later..." She gave her another warm smile. "Will you be at Sarah's tonight?"

"Sarah's?....Oh crap....I completely forgot" Dahl said, dismayed that she'd let it slip her mind.

Sarah, the junior doctor who'd told her about Liz getting her ass handed to her by Jessica, was having a house warming party. She'd invited the entire department so it was bound to be an interesting night.

"I'm not sure I have the energy for it...are you going?

"I might stick my head in for a bit"

"Ok...I'll see how I feel"

"Ok, maybe see you there then..."

"Maybe...night"

Dahl turned to leave.

"Night" Jessica called after her.

Dahl walked out of the department feeling a bit deflated. She was exhausted but a party might be good and if Jessica did go, even for a bit, maybe they could find somewhere quiet to talk.

By the time she got home though she'd talked herself out of going. She didn't want to be around happy drunk people, especially not if in reality she'd end up spending most of the night trying to avoid Jessica enjoying herself.

She decided that her night in at home was a much better idea and so poured herself a gin and tonic and went about making the living room as comfortable as possible.

She pulled the blankets and pillows off the sofa and laid them out on the floor. She ran upstairs and changed into some shorts and a t-shirt, grabbed her duvet and some more pillows and ran back downstairs.

She loved camping out in her living room. She'd designed it for exactly that purpose. Growing up she'd moved about a lot, often living in hotel rooms with her parents and siblings. So now she had her own place and her own open plan lounge, she made the most of it at every opportunity she got.

She added the duvet and pillows to the pile of rugs and cushions and then sat herself down in the middle of them all. Grabbing her gin and tonic she flicked through the playlists on her phone and settled on one she'd titled 'Paris (Oo La La)'. Grace Potter's song of the same name blasted out of her stereo and she began to sing along at full volume.

After about an hour she was suitably warm from the gin, she'd devoured some nachos and guacamole and had swapped the music for a trashy TV show instead.

She was just about to pour another drink when her doorbell rang. She groaned at the interruption but got up to answer it any way.

She found her friend Hattie standing on her porch all dressed up ready to party, a bottle of gin in hand.

"Hey...why aren't you dressed up?" Hattie questioned eyeing up Dahl as she made her way into the house.

"Why are you dressed up?" Dahl questioned back, shutting the door behind her.

"Sarah's Party?!" Hattie stated as though it was completely obvious where she was headed.

"How do you know about that?"

"The whole hospital knows about it Dahl"

"You don't work at the hospital" Dahl countered.

"No but I know a lot of people who do and I really want a night out, so can you get dressed so we can go have some fun" Hattie pleaded.

"You mean so you can go try your luck with Sarah" Dahl smirked.

Hattie had been after Sarah ever since her and Dahl had bumped into her in town one night a few months ago. Hattie was usually a massive hit with anyone she met but Sarah hadn't just fallen for her like others usually did. She'd made her work for it and Hattie had risen to the challenge. Dahl could see the two of them working well together. Hattie needed taming a bit and Sarah needed bringing out of her shell so they'd balance each other out but she wasn't sure she was up for playing wing-woman tonight.

"Ok yeah that too, but come on, it'll be fun"

"I dunno....Jess said she might be there"

Hattie calmed herself a bit and looked at Dahl with empathy.

"Ok, I know that might be hard but you can't let that keep you in this house forever"

Dahl gave her an I'm still not sure look. Hattie moved over to her and gave her a hug. After a moment or two Dahl pulled away and shook herself off.

"Ah ok, yes you're right" she said. "We should go have some fun...let me go get changed"

******

Forty five minutes later Dahl and Hattie were in Sarah's kitchen pouring themselves two G&T's. Sarah's house was packed full of people. She really had invited the entire hospital.

She'd gone all out though, her ground floor was open plan like Dahl's and she'd moved all of the furniture out of the way to make space for a makeshift dance floor. There were fairy lights all over and a spinning disco glitter ball hanging from her celling.

A few people Dahl recognised as her neighbours were busy putting together a DJ booth using randomly collected speakers along with Sarah's LP player, a small DJ deck her brother had brought and her friend Olu's phone hooked up to a Spotify playlist. It actually ended up working surprisingly well but at that point looked like it was more likely to cause a fatal accident than produce any kind of tune.

Most people from Cardiology were there and a few she knew from other departments too. Dahl and Hattie got chatting to some of the Physios and after a bit Sarah joined them. She'd greeted them when they'd arrived but then hurried off to sort the food out, much to Hattie's disappointment. Dahl had suspected it was a bit of a ploy, trying not to look too keen because as they chatted now it was very obvious Sarah was into her.

Dahl smiled thinking it was nice at least her friends got to be happy. As she turned away to leave them to it she glanced across the room and saw Jessica enter, her heart skipped a beat. She looked fantastic. Dressed in an emerald green floral maxi dress with dark green heels to match. Her long blonde hair was down by her shoulders and her make-up was devastatingly elegant.

Dahl's gaze followed her as she made her way into the room. She greeted a few people and chatted to a couple more and Dahl couldn't help but realise they were congratulating her for some reason. She couldn't hear enough to figure out what exactly they were saying but it was definitely commendations she was receiving and Jessica looked happy. Dahl couldn't think why they'd be doing that. She knew Jessica had a research paper she'd been working on but it was years away from publication.

As Dahl watched her Jessica looked up and their eyes met. Jessica smiled at her and Dahl, embarrassed to be caught looking at her, quickly broke their gaze and turned her attention back to her current social group.

The physio's were deep in conversation and Sarah and Hattie had moved onto the make shift dance floor. They'd taken their flirting up a notch, moving up close to each other with the music, trying to find ways to keep close contact. Although Sarah was definitely making Hattie work to impress her, even now.

Dahl couldn't help but laugh, Hattie had definitely found her match.

"Something tickled you?'' A voice enquired in Dahl's ear.

"Yeah Hattie's being..." she began before realising who the voice belonged too and stopping midsentence.

She turned to look at the woman stood next to her and was greeted with Jessica's amused face.

"Hattie's being what?" Jessica queried shooting Dahl a bemused smile.

"Errr..." Dahl began, caught a little off guard. "...she's being played at her own game" she managed to finish with a little laugh, nodding towards Hattie and Sarah.

Jessica glanced over at her and chuckled in agreement.

They melted into a strange silence not really knowing what to say but the doctor moved up close to the side of Dahl, their arms slightly grazing each other's.

"You look nice" Dahl finally stated looking down at her drink.

"Thank you, you too" Jessica replied glancing over at Dahl.

"What was all that about as you came in?" Dahl queried, nodding towards the group who'd greeted her with hugs and congratulations.

Before Jessica could answer, one of the staff nurses from the cardiology ward came across and offered her a congratulations as well, which Jessica smiled and thanked her for.

"Enjoy your freedom" the nurse added before moving off.

Dahl was just about to repeat her question when someone else did the same thing, Giving Jessica a hug and an arm squeeze in the process. Then Dan, Dahl's boss approached.

"I hear congratulations are in order Jessica. Thrilled for you. My sister divorced her husband last year and it's the best thing she ever did. She's never been happier. I hope it brings you the same ease."

He gave her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek and then wandered off.

Dahl looked at Jessica as he walked away, not quite sure she'd heard right.

"Did he just say you got divorced?"

Jessica looked up at Dahl.

"I was about to go sign the papers last night when you bumped into me. That's why I was looking so happy."

Dahl looked at her with both shock and joy.

"You're divorced?!" she said again, this time with a little smile.

"I'm divorced" Jessica confirmed, smiling back at Dahl.

Dahl motioned towards her and put her hand on Jessica's cheek then stopped and pulled away looking around her, remembering where she was. In a room surrounded by her colleagues.

Jessica laughed and put her hand on Dahl's waist pulling her back close, planting her lips on Dahl's.

Their kiss was everything. All the months they'd spent apart, all the passion and love they'd bottled up came pouring out into that moment and they lost themselves in each other.

They were brought back to earth with a throng of wolf whistles and cheers in their direction. The two women broke their kiss, blushing with slight embarrassment at the attention now on them.

Hattie and Sarah saved them by pulling them onto the dance floor. Other's soon followed suit or returned to their previous conversations. The four women paired off again, Jessica pulling Dahl close as they danced. The music slowed it's pace to match their mood and Jessica's lips found Dahl's again.

At this point, Liz walked into the room and clocked them both. Her face was a picture and she stared at them in disbelief. She grabbed hold of Dan as he walked past her and pointed as if expecting him to do something about it.

He gave her a brazen grin.

"You're the only one who cares about it Liz. Let it go, they're none of your business"

As Dahl and Jessica broke their embrace they saw Liz talking to Dan and pointing at them. They both laughed as Dan dismissed Liz as nothing but a busy body. Liz then looked up and saw them watching her. They both gave her a cheeky grin. Still looking at Liz Dahl leaned into towards Jessica.

"You wanna get out of here?" she purred into her ear.

The doctor smiled and nodded and after giving Liz the finger they made a discreet withdrawal.

****

Ten minutes later they were outside Dahl's front door continuing their kisses. Dahl's hands weaved their way into Jessica's hair, pulling her close. The doctor wrapped her arms around her and kissed her back, eagerly. Their lips roughly caressing at each other's.

They began to slow a little and switched from their deep kisses into lighter, shorter ones. Jessica biting gently at Dahl's bottom lip. Dahl moaning softly at the authoritative act.

After a few minutes Jessica broke their kisses and locked her eyes with Dahl's, a gentle smile emerging across her face. Dahl mirrored it back at her as Jessica's gaze began to explore her face.

She ran her thumb across the sculptors lips, teasingly pulling a little at the bottom one causing then to part slightly. She caressed her cheek before smiling again and planting a brief but tender kiss onto Dahl.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner..." She began as their kiss ended. "I'm sorry I put you through the last few months but I needed to do it this way."

Dahl smiled at her.

"It's ok, I understand"

She kissed her lightly and then taking hold of Jessica's hand opened the door and pulled her into the house.

Once inside, Dahl led the doctor over to the snug she'd created on her living room floor and turned on the music. Benny Latimore's 'Move and Grove Together' hummed through the speakers.

Jessica reached out and caught hold of Dahl's waistband, using it to pull her into her. She then slid her hands round her waist as they began a to move to the music. Dahl leaned into Jessica, wrapping her arms around her neck and placing her cheek against the doctors.

"I missed you" Dahl whispered into to her ear.

"I missed you too" Jessica whispered back.

They began to make out again, soft but deliberate kisses quickly turning to harder passionate ones.

Jessica quickly took the lead pushing Dahl backwards onto the sofa and climbing on top of her. Her hands snaked up Dahl's torso and cupped her breasts before she pulled at her top, tugging it up and over her head and throwing it over the back of the sofa.

Her hands swiftly returned to Dahl's chest, unfastening her bra and disposing of that in the same way.

She began teasing her fingertips across Dahl's breasts, pinching her nipples before planting a hot kiss on Dahl's lips.

Dahl moaned at the sharp pressure and arched towards Jessica's hands. The doctor gave her breasts a firm squeeze then rolled her nipples between her index finger and thumb and pulled. Dahl's breath caught and she squirmed beneath her as both pain and pleasure ripped through her body. The doctor repeated the action and Dahl squirmed again.

She ceased her attack on Dahl's nipples as Dahl began to slide her hands up her thighs. She allowed her to stroke her pussy through her dress and begin to undo the buttons down the front but then stopped her, grabbing her wrists and pinning her arms against the sofa.

"I'm in control tonight" she purred, griding her pussy against Dahl's thigh. "You're going to have to behave for once."

Dahl wriggled beneath her and shot her a lustful smile. The woman in front of her had definitely made her mind up about what she wanted.

Still holding her wrists the doctor brought her lips close to Dahl's ear.

"For the next half an hour I can touch you but you're not allowed to touch me. Understand?"

Dahl smiled in acknowledgement.

Jessica loosened her grip on Dahl's wrists and when she didn't move she let them go completely. Dahl lowered her arms a little but kept them against the sofa.

The doctor leant in and kissed her softly, trailing her fingers across her chest and down her torso. Once she reached the top of Dahl's trousers she gave them a little tug but then pulled away completely until she was stood in front of her.

She began to strip, undoing her dress slowly button by button before shrugging it off her shoulders and dropping it to the floor.

Dahl wriggled in her seat, struggling to restrain herself from reaching out.

Jessica continued, undoing the catch on her bra. Dahl's hand motioned toward her, the doctor stopped and did the catch back up. Dahl stopped moving. The catch was unfastened and her breasts were set free. Her bra falling to the floor.

The doctor ran her hand down her own torso towards her sex. She teased her fingers inside her underwear and stroked her clit. Dahl moaned softly. Jessica repeated the action, before sliding a finger into her slit and allowing a moan to escape her own lips. Dahl gripped the sofa to stop herself reaching out.

Jessica slowly removed her finger from her pussy and dropped to her knees in front of Dahl. Locking eyes with her she brought her finger to her lips and seductively sucked her juice from it. Dahl's breathing laboured.

Jessica ran her hands up the inside of Dahl's thighs and stroked a finger across her slit. Dahl squirmed. Jessica smiled. She reached up and pulled Dahl's trousers off her then repeated the action over the outside of her panties. Dahl squirmed again and arched up trying to increase the contact with Jessica's fingers.

"Nah ah" Jessica scolded pulling away. Dahl lowered her hips with a moan.

Jessica brought her mouth close to Dahl's sex. She blew a teasing breath across her slit before running her tongue firmly across her panties. Dahl moaned loudly and gripped at the sofa again. The doctor pulled back a little.
