When Barnaby said, "...I can't do...here..." that should have been respected. Especially since it was during a conversation on boundaries. Respecting boundaries isn't for the sake of the boundary itself; it is a way of showing respect to the person.
Gil did the right thing by offering Barnaby a choice to use the butt plug. But I think the appropriate thing to do would be to leave when the shop closed and go somewhere else for the rest of the chapter. Dynamics include respect.
