A major mistake of some writers is telling a story by narration (telling that something was said)

rather than dialog/conversation (quoting the words).

I have sometimes given up on such stories as soon as I realized it was happening. In this case, because of particular interest in the storyline (sex with girlfriend's/wife's best friend),

I persevered till halfway through.

By then it irritated me enough to abandon the story.

Consequently, 🌟🌟🌟.

Plus little interest in trying the author's other stories.

I could not agree with this comment more! I hate lazy writers who don't have characters dialogue to breath life into the story. And I get especially irritated with writing like this: "and then they spoke a whole lot of nasty, dirty stuff". Fucking hell, write the dirty talk as dialogue. Lazy, lazy, lazy to just write how characters spoke dirty and not actually take time to quote them in the heat of passion. Argh.
