This story hit me at just the right time this morning. I needed a "flight of fancy" tale to make me smile a bit. Well constructed and entertaining. Thank you.
I love this. The romance between him and Laura felt a little underwhelming, but the rest is told amazingly. The character development of the MC and the relationship with the bird was great. Thank you for sharing this heartwarming little short with us!

It may be a well worn story line, but your humor and writing skill brought me in. I'll look forward to your next submission. Good on you!
Great story, with misdirection and reveals expertly woven into the story line.
Uniquely & utterly beautiful, entertaining and cleverly crafted. Your humor shone through, as . Please keep them coming! Moreandmoreandmoreandmore
I wasn't sure about the beginning, but I was sold by the end of the story. Thank you.
If dogs are going to be matchmaker why not a bird. Maybe a little to sweet but in our times you need it. Thank You
Really big of Laura to name their child after his first great love, even if she did sort of give her blessing to them.
That's a keeper for sure.
Well told
I have a number of cute little American Goldfinches that love to pick the seeds out of my sunflowers. Likewise, your story about the adventure with the goldfinch and lover was touching. Thanks, and good luck in the contest.
A lovely little story and so touching. Thank you for this little gem. 5*s.
But after the second time the bird shit on me, I'd close the windows. Nice story.
Yes it was a impactful story and yes the strangest thing are related to life itself.
Very well done. This is not an easy time we are living through but literature will have to reflect it. Thank you for doing that along with a bit of spice.
M&M, that story is sappy, melodramatic and a bit of fantasy. And, yes, you still, use far, too many, commas, that create choppiness, in an otherwise, smooth, read.
HOWEVER, it is also extremely well planned and written, and overwhelmingly enjoyable. Thank you.
Keep 'em comin'.
I always wondered why you had a goldfinch on your profile, now I know why. Love the story you got this 6 ft 5 280 lb boxer tearing up. Very well done thank you.
Sir, you out did yourself! Damn, I love your stories. This was a beautiful story. Still have tears in my eyes. Thank you for a beautiful 5 star story!
The hell with analyzing this tale. It was just an enjoyable literary trip worthy of 5* Sometimes these things just grab you.
Heart warming. So much sadness but thank God joy triumphed in the end.
6 stars if I could.
I've never really cried from reading a short story like this...until today. Amazing. I'll never look at a gold finch the same way again. Thank you for sharing.
Great story. I’m surprised nothing much was said about bird mess all over the apartment (other than the ocasional poop in his hair). Birds are messy eaters..
Lovely story. Sad and uplifting at the same time. Who knows maybe Lynn's soul inhabited Goldie. BardnotBard
I have left a few less-than-glowing comments on a couple of other stories by this author in the past (nothing scorching, although a couple of them may have actually earned one).
Several years ago when I began reading on this site, I must have started with a couple of M&M's stories that I must not have liked very much, with the result being that I scored them low and put M&M on my "no read list". (I made some pretty bad reading-choices in those days.)
Due to the paucity of good "new" LW story submissions, I recently started randomly looking for and reading older stories by a variety of the more prolific writers in this category. I "forgot" my earlier decision to give M&M's stories a "pass" (honestly, I was getting desperate for good stories to read), so I chose one of his better-rated stories to try -- boy, was I glad I did! I was very pleasantly surprised!
I don't remember which of his stories that was (there have been several dozen since), but it was GOOD, and I subsequently went on a reading binge of them, which is currently still ongoing. Even though they don't all warrant my "Excellent" rating, my cumulative average rating is (so far) turning out to be MUCH better than the average rating I give for almost any other writer that I have read, in any category on the site! And although that isn't all of the writers, it is a considerable number of them, including a lot of the most popular ones.

THIS story earns my 5-stars.
I'm also glad to say that I'm now giving the rest of M&M's stories a try, too!
I plan to make up for lost time and work my way through your entire stories list, so keep up the good work and don't stop posting giving us these really good ones!
