Just reread this and it is still a favorite.

Very disappointing in MY view, but I hope some may have enjoyed it more. I felt let down by it, for me it read more as a xenophobic study of adolescent angst, driven by as yet still unresolved pre-pubescent inadequacy issues, struggling to erupt over into his fragile ersatz state of pseudo-sanity, in an inevitable mind-melting implosion all the more damning after such deep, sad and sorrowful suppression, but perhaps I missed something?

I enjoyed most of the story. But here is my problem. As another commenter mentioned, she is a “ slut wannabe”. Women who pose naked for others, do so because it gives them a feeling of being in control. Her plans with the “ spaniel”, and the embarrassment of her husband, who wouldn’t have presumably known about the painting being displayed, was another intentional attempt to emasculate him, and get the upper hand. Sooo.... it would look like she is scared of him at the present moment. But the next time her “ inner slut” yearns to break free, she merely has to notify the police, as to what is buried by the animal pens. Husband goes to jail, she is free to do what she wants. Yeah, I gave it a 4, because this is too big of a loose end.

Whilst I enjoyed this story and the way it was written I struggled with one point. Accepting Carol’s free expression attitude and love of nudity (hence sitting for the painting) she derided the painter for his skinny body, his small penis and his attitude in general. Yet, when it came to the New York trip she stated she ‘might have sex with him because of his charm’. That one line spoilt the story for me because even though she was angry with Gabe’s attitude this thought should never have occurred to her prior to leaving for the trip, if indeed she was truly in love with her husband and had previously rejected all and every advance by the painter. It didn’t make sense because she was planning to possibly cheat and just didn’t fit with her character development. Thus, 4*

They were all to stupid. The husband was more the nasty cuckold than a submissive one even if he overvalued his wife.

Although LPN scores this a 5, QuickMagazine can only go to 4. The reason? After Carol has seen the portrait and put two and two together, Gabe should have burned it. Right in front of her. Why in the world would Gabe want to keep it? Meanwhile, I suspect Sunshineman2019 was inspired by Hooked's "Thou Shalt Not Covet" (he later revisited this theme with "Gift For Whom?"), though I believe there are at least a couple other "nude portrait" LW tales. Gabe's firm actions also recall "Marriage As A House" by TX Tall Tales and "Company Holiday Party" by demander, who ironically expressed some concerns in his comment below. Oh, and speaking of Hooked, his comment mourned the lack of punishment for Carol. Hmmm...scaring her shitless (which will last for the rest of her life) wasn't enough?

Read the passage pasted above. That passage is totally incongruous to her character and wasn't at all needed for the story. She could be blissfully ignorant assuming she would hold off thr advances of the Spaniard a d enjoy the gala (that doesn't exist). Of course he would have drugged her, raped her, and then she would have disappeared into the white slavery underworld. But she didn't know that. So why did the author decide to take her character and suddenly go from slapping Ronaldo for touching her while posing, to well she might have sex with him in NYC because he is charming (really?) and aroused (by his tiny dick, again really)? It is just so incongruous with other loving things she does with her husband whether it is how she reacted to his speech at the unveiling or earlier when she stands up for him at the dinner at their house, or rewarding her husband for his standing up for his home and family. Nah. This was a faux pas that cheapened thr story.

Yeah.... I don’t like loose ends. Sooner or later, the dumb bitch would have spilled her guts to someone, about the “ graves”. She already proved she couldn’t be trusted. I know it sounds to everyone like he regained the upper hand, but in reality he gave her the ammo, to ruin him anytime she wanted. It wad going well until you rushed the ending in just a couple of paragraphs. Had you written the ending with the same attention you gave to the first 3/4 of the story it would have gotten a '5'... since there are no fractional scores, I gave it a 4, wishing I could have made it 4.5.

Story falls apart in a few places. If there is no showing in New York, why doesn't Gabe tell Carol that? She would have never gone. If the was no showing, why was Renaldo bringing the portrait? Renaldo's plane to kidnap Carol and then return her qould have landed him in prison if carried oit.

Very nice story. Pretty satisfying ending too. BTW, I also wondered how Gabe explained his possession of Rolando’s phone and laptop. The local Sheriff might not question it but I would bet that the FBI would. Seriously. Still a good story, so thanks, Sunshineman.

I thought at the start it was just going to be an artist seducing women story, but you changed it just that bit to make it look better, apart from the silly sex trafficking operation ending not a bad story.

She was manipulated by a very evil man. Never a good idea to let your wife be alone with an artist while nude for an extensive time. When she stamped off to NYCz she was being a child because of her tantrums with her husband. She was attracted to the monster but had no plans to cheat on her husband. But she would have been drugged, raped, and sold into the illicit porn business. She was immature and petulant and did not listen to her husband. For her sake, she was lucky she resisted all the monster's attempts at fornication. Otherwise she would be in the grave (or at least scarred being down there for a week trapped). But herbhusband actually saved her by taking action on the monster and striking first before her trip. With a brush that close to pure evil and possible execution, she is too scared to remotely cheat again. Her husband realizes she was manipulated but a master snake but she had the willpower to not cheat (in NYC she would have been raped the first night she went to dinner with the monster; remember there was no Met show, she woukd have been in the soup right away) and he can reconcile with her quickly. Normally would say a couple surviving this would need counseling, but she knows he murdered the monster. So they will not involve a third party. Besides it isn't inline with the MC's code of conduct. Very black and white. They reconciled quickly. And rightfully so. She knows what was planned for her and the lengths her husband went to protect her and his family.

Clearly she had an emotional affair. Reconciliation was honest but way too easy on her.

Carol still got off way too easy. I know Gabe loves her but she totally disrespected and humiliated him. She allowed her portrait to be shown publicly cause she was pissed at her husband and wanted to let him know that she could do whatever she wanted without his permission. If she had gone with Rolando to New York, she definitely would have had sex with him, whether willingly or unwilling she is the one that was putting herself in that situation!!!!!

Great story, onlly sometimes the shifts in the story were a bit rash. And the ending seemed somewhat rushed, could hane been fleshed out somewhat.

Again, this is a great story about a strong man who wouldn’t be a cuck. He should have carried her luggage and the portrait out a put them in the hole. Then he should have asked her if she still wanted to go with the Spainel.

After cogitation on this story, I believe that after seeing asshole’s plans for his wife that he should have pumped Drano into the hole. Simmering in that for a couple days would give him time to consider his misspent life. He died too easy.

It was a pretty good story with a couple of missteps. First, you didn't need to add those weird "thoughts" about Carol wondering if she was going to fuck Rolando or not. It wasn't necessary and the story worked very well with Carol just toddering along thinking she had everything under control. It also drastically changes the readers perception of her from hapless idiot to tempted cheater, which I don't think you intended.

Secondly, you didn't need to make Rolando any more evil than he already was - making him an actual threat to Carol's life and such came out of left field. The way I look at it, Gabe is already a bit of a bastard by just doing what he did (assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, etc) why not just let him f'ing kill the guy without the extra justification. I mean, hell, he did dig TWO graves.. any man capable of these actions and that sentiment is more than capable of just going the extra tiny step to eliminate a man threatening his family... and if you ask me (and probably most readers) that threat is more than enough to justify his actions.
