I had sex with her again before we showered to leave for the restaurant. God, I loved sex. The sweaty tangle of limbs, the breathless sighs, the soft moans, the panting, plunging my prick in a hot, wet pussy. Somehow, this was even better, knowing I was planting millions of seeds, hoping to create a new life. I swear, it made the sex ten percent better than fucking for fun. Knowing her womb was prepared to take our mutual offerings and make a baby; that was magic, and somehow, the sex was better. No wonder I was having so much fun.

We met at Kamonegi's and ordered food before we got down to the nitty gritty.

"You were right to be worried, Nora. Nick's inability to give you a child goes straight to his core beliefs of his worth as a man. Knowing he can't give you a child, is eating him up. Having to turn that job over to Brick is killing him. Not that he doesn't want you to have a child. He loves you like crazy and wants you to have anything you want out of life, and that includes having children. He just thinks you deserve better than he is now. But you refuse to leave him, so he's leaving you, emotionally, sexually. He doesn't want to leave you alone until he knows you've found someone else. Someone to give you what he can't, but if you don't find someone, he might take the matter out of your hands. It won't be next week, or even next month, but at some point. Maybe when you want another child. I can't say for sure. He doesn't see any future for himself, and it's why he's not doing anything with his life."

"You're saying he's suicidal?" Nora said.

"Not immediately, but eventually. If you leave him, which he expects, and even wants, he'll kill himself shortly afterward. It's part of the reason for his withdrawal, his refusal to have sex, especially when it seems so demeaning to him. But if you don't leave him, he might make plans on his own, find a single friend or army buddy, who agrees to take care of you. When he knows that they'll step in, he might step out, force the change on you."

Nora started crying, not sobbing, just quiet tears flowing down her cheeks. Laura immediately put her arms around her and pulled her in close. Jeri reached out her hand and held Nora's. Women were so much better at that than men were.

"Let me ask you a question, Jeri," I said. "There's a lot more tied into Nick's masculine image than his ability to father a child, isn't there?"

"Of course. Providing for his family, but he knows his disability benefits flow to his spouse if he dies. He probably has life insurance, though I didn't ask him. Now life insurance refuses to pay for acts of suicide within a couple years of issuing a policy, but his injuries occurred three years ago. If he bought the life insurance then, that limitation goes out the window. Nora can still collect. I'm sure that he's been very thorough in his planning."

"What about protecting his wife?"

"Of course. Protect her from what?"

"A rapist."

"What rapist?" Jeri asked.

"Me."

"Aren't you having sex with her with his permission?"

"Yes, and obviously Nora's as well, but what if I quit getting permission."

"What are you thinking?"

"What if he comes back from the surgical center on Thursday, expecting me to be gone, and I'm not. I'm at his house and threaten to keep fucking his wife, against her wishes. If I start dragging her to the bedroom against her very vociferous protestations that she no longer wants to have sex with me, I expect him to come after me."

"I'm sure an ex-serviceman like Nick, would have guns in the house. Sounds like a fatal plan to me," Jeri said.

I looked at Nora. She confirmed, "At least three I know of, but he doesn't need a gun, if you were thinking of removing them from the house. He can use a knife, or a screwdriver, or a fucking pen."

"That was my thinking. I obviously have no desire to die or even suffer a severe injury. I don't mind a little bit of a physical mauling. In fact, I'm hoping for it, to prove to Nick he's still got the ability to physically protect his wife, so I'd have to do or say something to get him to go after me immediately, without searching for something to kill me with, and a way to stop him before he stomped me to death."

"Can't I stop him?" Nora said. "Throw myself over your body or something?"

"To my way of thinking, that might exacerbate the problem, as it's you he's protecting, and it might make him feel you care for me more than you do."

"What about me, Sir," Laura said. "Surely Nick wouldn't hit a woman."

"Yeah, if he realized it in time, but you're pregnant, and there's no way I'm putting you between me and an angry, protective husband."

"What about Nick's parents. Where do they live?" Jeri asked. "He'd probably listen to them."

"They live in Bellingham," Nora said.

"That's about 75 miles away, right?" I asked.

"Yes," Nora confirmed.

"Too late to make a 150 mile round trip drive tonight. I think we'll need to phone them. Not from here, but your house. Do they know what you and Nick are doing?"

"They knew we were doing the IVF. We'd borrowed money for the next round. They don't know about this. Nick was too ashamed to tell them."

"I think they're going to need to be told."

"Oh, shit!"

******

We were all seated around Nick's living room, except for Laura, who might just be a distraction. Nora called Nick's parents and put it on speaker after we'd discussed what we wanted to say.

"Hey, sweetie, what's up?" A female voice asked.

"Hi, Maggie, is Josef there. We need to have him in on this conversation. It pertains to Nickolas."

We heard shouting for Josef to come to the phone. "Has anything happened to him?" Maggie asked.

"Not yet, but it could in the future," Jeri said. "My name is Jeri Tyson and I'm a psychologist, and I spoke to Nick this afternoon and I think there is a serious risk to him at some point in the next few months."

"What kind of risk?" Maggie asked.

"Suicidal ideation," Jeri replied, "related to his injuries incurred in Syria, and how it relates to him and Nora. We're going to need you to come here tomorrow and perhaps stay for a couple days. But there's something you should know before you come. Is Josef there yet?"

"I'm here," Josef said.

"Mom, Dad, you know Nick and I were trying to have a baby, and I want to let you know we're returning the money as we haven't used it for IVF. We decided to go a different route to have a baby. I've been having sex with another man."

"What!" Josef exploded. "Why would you do such a thing?"

"Because Nick wanted me to. It's tied into the suicide thing, we think. We believe Nick wants me to find someone else and then he intends to kill himself."

"Why would he do such a thing?" Maggie asked.

"We believe it's tied into his image of himself as a man, Mr. and Mrs. Wallensky," Jeri said. "Having lost his ability to reproduce, only being able to have sex by pumping up his penile implant, losing most of his ability to use his right arm. He feels he isn't worthy of Nora anymore. She's refused to abandon him, and he's done what he could to push her away, and perhaps his insisting on her having sex with another man is part of that. He wants her to find someone else to be with. If and when she did, he would kill himself. If she doesn't leave him, he might arrange with someone else for them to take care of her if anything happened to him, then he'd force the issue by taking his own life. He's not ready to do so at the moment, but it's in the back of his mind. He doesn't want Nora married to half a man. He wants her to have a whole man. He's not convinced that he's that man anymore. We need to prove him wrong. That's where you come in."

"What are we supposed to do?" Maggie said.

"Save my life," I said, speaking for the first time.

"Who are you?" Josef asked.

"I'm the other man, the one who's been sleeping with Nora."

There was silence for a long time.

Finally, Josef spoke again. "What makes you think I won't kill you myself?"

"I'm hoping it's because you realize that this is what your son wanted. He even signed an agreement with me. I've got it, if you want to look at it."

"Mom, Dad, Brick is the one paying for Nick's cosmetic surgery. Nick asked that Brick come to our house while he's in the hospital, do what had to be done to give me a child, then be gone before he got out. He'd be out of our lives and wouldn't have anything to do with his child, as long as it was raised in a good home. He planned to be gone on Wednesday night, so Nick never had to see him."

"Is that why you're fucking Nora, because you offered to pay for his surgery?" Josef asked.

"One was not contingent on the other. I offered to pay for three more rounds of IVF if he wanted to do that instead. He chose me. I now realize that he might be hoping for Nora to find another man. She doesn't want another man. She wants Nick. I'm nothing but a means to an end. She doesn't care for me. If Nora and I ended up together, and I can assure you, that would never happen, Nick could die happy, knowing Nora was taken care of. We need Nick to realize that he's still the man that Nora loves and needs. That despite the inferiority he feels now due to his injuries, he can still take care of her."

"How do you plan going about that?" Maggie asked.

"That's the tricky part. I plan to be here on Thursday when he gets back from the surgical center. I'm going to pretend I'm going to rape Nora, that I'm not done with her yet, and say all kinds of nasty things to Nick to make him kick my ass. I need you to stop him before he goes too far. Nora can't do it. It might prove in his own mind that she cares for me more than she does. We need someone else to stop it, to explain that she was never in danger from me, and it was a test to prove his own worthiness to be the husband he can be. That his inability to father a child doesn't define him as a man, that it's everything else a woman needs, not just children."

"You would let my son beat you up to prove to him he's worthy?" Maggie asked.

"Yes, but hopefully, not too bad."

"What is it exactly you want us to do?" Josef asked.

"If you could arrange to come here around three tomorrow afternoon, we'll have cleaned up the house from the more unsavory aspects of what I've been doing. I'd like both of you to help go through the house and remove most of the lethal weapons in here. I want to have a chance of surviving this. Before he comes home on Thursday morning, we need to hide your vehicle, and put you in the guest room or someplace you're not visible, but can intervene quickly. When he walks in the door, I'm going to pretend I'm going to rape Nora, whether she wants to or not, and there's nothing a no-nut, one armed man like him can do about it. Nora will be screaming and carrying on that she's done with me and wants nothing more to do with me and that I'll be raping her if I have sex with her again.

"I'm hoping to provoke a violent, physical attack as he rescues Nora. When he's proved he can protect her, I'd like you to come out screaming that Nora wasn't in real danger and this was all a part of a plan to prove he's still a man. If we can get him calmed down and I don't need to be carted off in an ambulance, I'd like some time to talk to him, man to man. I think there's a few things I might be able to tell him that will make him feel better about himself. Then you all can talk to him and I'll leave, as I'm not needed anymore. That's what I'd like to do, and hopefully, it works out as planned. There are several people who might be disappointed if it doesn't, including my own parents."

"And me," Jeri said. "I'm his ex-wife and I'm hoping not to lose him, as we're still friends."

I looked at her gratefully.

"We'll be there at three," Josef said.

"Thank you," Nora said. "I need my Nickolas back."

******

I fucked Nora two more times that night, four more times in the morning, and once more after lunch. Which meant we didn't go visit Nick Wednesday, although Nora called him between boffing. While Nora and I were engaged in sexual congress, Laura was cleaning the house, except for the bedroom, which we didn't vacate much. After the last time, we took a shower to wash the sex stink off, which I was sure would offend Nick's parents, stripped the bed and changed the sheets. Laura changed the sheets in the guest bedroom where she'd spent last night. I packed up all my stuff and put on a nice suit, which I hoped would impress Nick's parents somewhat. I brought all of my things and Laura's to the car and stowed them in the trunk, except the outfit Laura intended to put on around 2:30. Unfortunately, it wasn't much.

Nick's parents showed up a little before three, and Nora let them in. Josef looked ex-military himself, which he later confirmed. Maggie was an ex-soldier's wife, and it showed up in her.

They both looked me over pretty thoroughly when I was introduced, perhaps wondering what their grandson might look like, if indeed Nora had a child.

"You look pretty strong," Maggie said. "Are you sure you won't hurt my son?"

"I'm fit, not trained. I won't try to do more than protect myself from getting too badly hurt. I don't want to hurt Nick. I respect him and what he's done in service to our country too much for that."

"And who is this woman?" Josef asked.

"Her name is Laura Smith. Her husband has asked me to look after her while he's out of town."

"Are you having sex with her too," Josef asked, going right to the heart of the matter.

"I am, yes. Your son isn't the only one who's asked me to fill in when circumstances has cheated them of fathering a child."

Josef and Maggie looked at each other.

"In fact, it was Laura and her husband who introduced me to Nick and Nora. They met at the fertility clinic and so knew Nora was having trouble conceiving. They thought I'd provided them with a valuable service and so asked Nick and Nora to meet with me. We discussed their issues where it was confirmed that the issue was Nick's not Nora's. We discussed what they might be able to do. I offered to take care of Nick's cosmetic surgery and pay for three more rounds of IVF treatment. Nick and Nora talked it over and decided I was the better option for them. As Nick put it, 'Sex is rarely fun and spontaneous for us anymore. I want you to treat Nora well and show her a good time. Take care of her for me.' That's what I've tried to do. It's not my intent to interfere further in their lives. I'm reasonably certain that Nora is pregnant and will be able to announce the good news to Nick in a couple weeks.

"While it might be overall good news, I'm sure it will also reinforce Nick's belief that he has little use in Nora's life. He's partially crippled, and can't father her children. If sex were all that was important to a woman, I'd still be married, but there are other things that matter much more. Nora knows this. That's why she sticks with Nick. He's important to her in a hundred ways other than sex. But he's forgotten that. He's focused on what he's lost, and not what he still has. He hasn't found anything else to do with his life, he doesn't engage in the physical acts which can replace sex. It's what leads us to believe he wants Nora to leave him if she finds the right person. He's not planning on a future, when he still has many years of his life to live."

"How do you know so much about this?" Maggie asked.

"I'm not sure I do, but I'm college educated and was married to a psychologist, a person I trust. Nora was talking to Laura about their respective husbands yesterday, and I listened. This is Jeri's belief, based upon meeting Nick and talking to Nora about their life together. It makes sense to me, so I'm willing to believe it's true until it's proven wrong in some way, shape or fashion."

"Where is Jeri now?" Josef asked.

"At work. She has a practice. I'm going out to dinner tonight with a man who's taking over management of a company I just purchased. I can perhaps persuade Jeri to join us. She knows the man. You're welcome to join us for dinner. Right now, I'd like to go through the house and remove firearms, knives, or anything else that might easily come to hand. After dinner, Laura and I will go back to her home, leaving you and Nora to discuss their situation. She can tell you more about Nick's state of mind than I can. She's supposed to be bringing Nick back home at 9:00 AM tomorrow. She gave me a house key so I can get back in the house if you're not here. I plan to arrive at 8:30, do a double check of the house and immediate objects of danger to me. That's probably when you should move your vehicle a couple blocks away, then return here before they get back."

They said they'd go out dining with me and I called Jeri and asked her if she could meet Nick's parents, Nora, Jack Browne and perhaps Brenda at The Walrus and the Carpenter at 6. I know what you're thinking. It's the same place I acted like an asshole to Brenda. I got her voicemail, and left a message. I called the restaurant and changed the reservation, reflecting the current number of people showing up for dinner.

"I want to warn you," I told Nick's parents. "I'm going to say harsh things to Nick. I want to provoke a sudden, unplanned attack. I don't want him looking around for something to hurt me. I want him coming after me with fists and feet. I think I'll be able to protect myself fairly well from that. I probably have no chance against a knife or something similar. Pay attention when he arrives. I don't think we're talking about a long discussion. I'm hoping everything will be over in five minutes. Please intercede to save my life."

"You're taking a big risk," Josef said.

"I met Nick, and the only advantage I think I might have on him, is I have two arms. I'm expecting to get hurt. He in no respects, strikes me as incompetent."

"You're smarter than you look."

"A lot of people tell me that." I smiled at him.

Nora and Josef went through the house with me and we collected easily found and used weapons. We put everything in a box to stick in the garage, except the rifle and shotgun which wouldn't fit. Josef said he'd stick those in his trunk. Nora showed me the three guns she knew about, including said rifle and shotgun. She didn't know about an automatic in a gun safe under the bed with a biometric thumb lock. Josef knew about it because he'd helped install the safe under the bed. We couldn't open it, so we had to unscrew it from the bed frame and take the whole safe.

"Does Nick carry a pocket knife?" I asked.

"Most of the time," Nora said, "but I don't know if he took it to the surgery center. He got it from Josef and may not have wanted to risk it being stolen."

"Please look around and see if you spot it anywhere in the house. If you don't see it, I'll assume he has it. If he pulls it out, I'm shouting 'Knife, knife,' as loud as I can and hopefully you'll get here before he guts me."

I hoped everything would happen in the living room area. The more rooms in the house he passed, the more things could go to shit. It would be hard to fling a chair at me, but there were a couple lamps I'd have to keep an eye on. We removed the fireplace poker, broom and ash pan. Then I thought about it and took the logs he had neatly stacked next to the fireplace. I hoped I wasn't going to get a major ass whooping, just a small one.

******

I gave Josef the address to the restaurant so he could find his own way there while I dropped Laura off at her home, which was pretty much on the way.

I said goodbye in the car. "I know you've been pretty neglected the last few days, Laura. I promise I'll take care of you when I get back. Thanks for doing most of the cleaning at Nora's today."

"It's okay, Sir. I understand completely. You gave me all of your attention when I was fertile, so I expected nothing less for Nora."
