This is one of Your worst Stories. 1st what happens to the jewelry he was preparing for his wife for the 20th anniversary?
.
The husband hires a private investigator and finds out that the wife has been lying to him the whole time. And what does he do with that information? Almost nothing.
.
He should have taken that information and done serious damage to her with the wife's family and social standing.. He should have gone to war..
.
At the very least since the wife wanted to constantly talk to him about trying to be friends with him.... the husband should have said to her ....Because you lied in so many ways about why you wanted to divorce we can't be friends.
Surprised he could even be in the same room as the bitch. Odd that the girls stayed with him rather than go with their mother. They were both old enough to choose. I guess the mother WAS a bitch!
Just this past Monday night, I was at a gathering where I guy told his story of how his wife of 17 years did the same thing to him a few years ago, the "I love you, but I'm not in love with you," before running off with another man. He is still working through the hurt and the pain. This story reminded me of hearing him talk.
I liked the 'I love you too much to start liking you'
As always, well done!
It was good, but he should've been much harsher with the slut ex-wife.
Why would he say he loved her? He hated the deceitful bitch. She started an affair with her boss, then coldly dumped her husband. If I were in his position, she wouldn't hear a civil word out of my mouth ever again.
-
Also it seemed odd that there was no mention of kids with Rae Ann, who must have only been 36 when they started dating. Normally at that age, women's body clocks make them desperate to start a family before it's too late. Being married to a younger, hotter woman, and having a couple of kids with her would've really made Traci jealous. Especially as she was now a lonely single mom taking care of a bastard baby.
I enjoyed it but wonder what he did with the malachite necklace. It's green and black rather than turquoise.
Or he could have behaved like we do in the real world and just told her to ‘fuck off’ when she approached him to be friends. All this nonsense about being civil, someone treats you like shit the only response required is to reciprocate, sod being reasonable.
This was a really good story but it ended very abruptly. I would have liked to hear her excuses and conversation with him as she struggled to keep her life together while looking after the child on her own. Also the story started with a lot about the custom made jewellery that just disappeared from the story as did the woman he went out with after the divorce or did I miss something? Almost a 5 but the sudden ending lost a point.
You know that you are a high-quality writer, even your short stories show depth and heart to them. Why do we always think we can still be friends? I took his love and threw it in the gutter and told him I wasn't in love with him anymore. It's the worst thing I've ever done in my life, I knew how badly this would hurt him, but it was far worse than I thought. I found him in a pool of blood, he had sliced his arms open from shoulder to wrist on each side. Thank God he lived but I'll always blame myself for being so cold to someone I find that I still love.
A great story. 5*. The sad thing? Somewhere, right now, men and women all over the world are getting the "I love you, but I'm not in love with you BS. And in most cases it comes as a complete shock.
Hmm....a single mother of a approximately 5-6 year old and in her early fifties. I can’t think of a better revenge. As for him, I would have gone for the redhead. I wonder what happened to the anniversary necklace? Author made a pretty big deal about it in the beginning of the story for it to just disappear
I need to know. What happened to the necklace? Liked the story. Wanted a bit of real revenge rather than a little regret.
So now she's a mid 40s single woman with a small, 3 year old? Good luck. Most men by that time don't want to start over and have a kid graduating HS in there 60s. Then pay for college instead of retirement.
I thought the garment would playa a role in the story, as a remnant of lost love
An actual LW story that's well written and plotted that doesn't include willing cuckolds or murder. A real breath of fresh air and definitely deserving of 5 stars. Thank you, Hooked.
Even ordinary Hooked is excellent. This gets a QuickMagazine 4, and a thank you to the author for always hitting your mark. Nice song reference at the end, didn't see that coming. And maybe, someday, will be a story with Traci NOT cheating.
She left him for a younger guy, lied, fucked around. So, my take is that he does not still love her and may get through the hate her part to indifference. But never love. Sure hay he wants nothing to do with her, though. D
Huh? What happened there at the half way point of the story near the end of page 2, flash, bang, fizzle, ploop? They must have deleted a bunch when it was posted. I'm guessing chapters 2 and 3 are in the works? ⭐⭐⭐
What exactly did tracie think they needed to talk about? I mean what's to talk about after, "I want a divorce, I'm not in love with you"? He actually believed she wasn't cheating or had someone on the side waiting? Is he stupid? Nobody who has been happily married for 20 yrs suddenly falls out of love with their spouse and want a divorce.. that usually mean they have someone else they want to be with... I didn't understand the "I love you too much to ever like you"? Huh? What does that even mean?... the MC seemed more angry at the guy than his slutty ex tracie.. he didn't "steal her"🙄... she went willingly and eagerly.. hence why she couldn't even wait 6 months until the divorce becomes final to bang him. Nobody can break or take what's truly yours.. if this wife wasn't sending her boss signals that she was available and willing, he would've moved on to the next stupid slut.. she clearly was sending out "I'm married, but very available signals.... the guy also did right by not marrying her.. he'd be a fucking fool. He now knows she's a cheating slut.. why would he marry her knowing how he got her? How you get them is how you lose them🤧.. do you know I've been married for 20yrs, if my husband cheats and have a baby on me, do you think "Love" is what I would still be feeling for him? I'm a vrgo, we're petty, vindictive and don't forget or forgive shit.. duck NO I would not still be talking about I love you.. love what? The lies, cheating, months of deception until she finally asked for a divorce, months of sneaking around, lying to him? I don't believe those long lunches was just them talking about their hopes and dreams?🤣🤭.. she was definitely fucking her boss before she asked for a divorce.. even if she wasn't fucking him. She was still cheating... married women shouldn't be having long lunches with their male boss.. the only reason tracie suddenly wanted to talk to him was to try and get him back.. the love she thought her and her boss had was just sex and she now realize it. She now has buyers remorse and is looking for her receipt to return it.. life doesn't work that way.. she was married to a great man for 20yrs and allowed her pussy to do all her thinking for her.. had he taken tracie back what would've stopped her from doing this again? She wanted someone to help her raise her daughter, that's it, that's all... she's just your typical slut wife who thought if it didn't work out with her lover she can always come back.. I don't understand what she thought they needed to talk about? He's married now to someone else, was she expecting him to leave her and get back with her and play daddy to her love child?.. I don't understand the mind of a cum slut.. I would've liked to hear what the slut wanted to talk about.. I think it would've been hilarious 😭😭😭😭🤭.. it doesn't surprise me she didn't have any respect for his new marriage, she didn't respect her own marriage, so I expect nothing less..
Good story. Given the stupid stuff I’ve seen from more than one couple, it was credible. Traci chose a tough path in life to be a single mom again at that age.
He handled it well. I don't think he should keep telling his ex he loved her. It's not right for a married man to say that. Otherwise, she got what she deserved, single motherhood and all that goes with that. Stupid woman.
Once the divorce went through, he should have sued the bastard and the company for alienation of affection and got them both fired. The wife was a real twat.
Good story. I am sure the BTB crowd will disagree with me, but that is their problem. LoL.
So much time spent on that necklace, and his attention to detail in preparing for their 20th anniversary, and then...... nothing. A hot date with Emma, promises of more, then...... nothing. His ex has a baby with Johann, then 2, then 3? back to one..... confused. And no word his ex spouse to explain her side. Enjoyed reading the story, but too many loose ends.
I know it's just a fiction story but Traci deserved more than she got! 5 BIG STARS!
ah really good but the end is too abrupt.
As a reader, I would have liked to know what Tracy was going to say to him especially after several years, an illegitimate daughter and him having remarried.
On the other hand, I understand the ex-husband who has rebuilt his life and no longer cares about knowing what she wants.
Dilemma Dilemma.
Stupidest cliché on LW and I think LW is the only place I have ever heard it.
Leaves you feeling there should be more.... to a usual effort for our author.
Enjoyed this classic "Traci" story. Loved the shout-out to Lobo's "Don't expect me to be your friend". My only complaint is the disappearance from the story of the necklace he had custom made for Traci. Such a buildup on the creation of the necklace, and after the breakup not a word? 5 stars.
Very good. I wonder what will happen when their 2 daughters get married and have families of their own. I think Traci is going to have a lifetime of regret for her little fling.
I liked it, but I guess I'm just a little too slow to figure out what the hell there saying when they use that line " I still love you, I'm just not [in love] with you. How the hell can you love someone if you're not in love with them. Now I still like you, but I'm just not in love with you, that I understand. Oh well, at 71 I won't worry too much about it. One more question, what happened with the necklace and the planning for the 20th anniversary?
"We can still be friends" is one of the dumbest things that can be said
Why is it that when an ex wants something they count the time you were apart as part of the time you were together happily? Unless I'm misremembering, they were married for 20 years and dated for 2 years, how does that add up to 23 when she spent about one year having an affair?
This wasn't a btb, but it is about as great as someone can hope for out of a realistic story. Wife tosses husband overboard for younger more successful guy, finds herself alone raising the other guys kid and regretting her choice. It's about the best he could get out of the situation. The sniping at each other at their daughters events was pretty amusing, not everyone can be the bigger man and frankly who wouldn't take a swing at the bastard who stole your wife?
Ultimately there was a profound logic in that sentiment, "I loved you too much to ever start liking you". Very relatable, reminds me of a couple of exes of mine. 5 stars
This is a disappointing submission from an author whose characters and story lines are typically of higher quality. King is a milquetoast cuckold who pathetically takes comfort in the delusion that his gym membership somehow creates fear of, and perhaps respect for, him in the men who fuck his wife. The reality is he lacks sufficient courage and inner fortitude to make any effort to impose consequences on a younger man who impregnates his wife and then further humiliates him by dancing with his date at the Christmas party after arriving with the cuckold's stolen wife on his arm. As if the MC were not enough of a flawed protagonist, the author also shows King lacks sufficient insight and self discipline to realize the stupidity of dating a friend and coworker of his ex, her volleyball pedigree and ass notwithstanding. The interpersonal dynamics of that situation are cringe worthy. It is no wonder the cuck's wife left him.
The story line suffers from the cliche of the wife falling for her alpha male boss. In today's legal and public relations environments, virtually no company would tolerate an executive becoming involved with one of his married subordinates, especially when that involvement destroys a family supporting minor children. In this case the offender is not a US citizen, so terminating his employment would be a simple matter to accomplish through a variety of avenues.
Thank you for sharing your work here, Hooked1957. Will look forward to enjoying your next submission.
Seems to me that when I was young (yes I can remember 50+ years ago) marriages were valued much higher than now, even when one of the partners would engage in an affair or fling. So you'd have families stay together--though not necessarily happily--rather than seek a divorce. Maybe it's better for folks now that divorces seem so acceptable and unsurprising. Guess there's reasons for both approaches. Fine story, Hooked, especially the "afterlife" of the split. Thank you.
That is a real thing...someone breaks a relationship but expects friendship on the other side. Kinda cruel.
SwordWieder. Is right on point " a lifetime of regret" is the best Traci will ever have . Third child grows up and she is all alone.
Very good, as always from this author. My only niggle is that the ending seemed a little rushed and Traci didn't get to suffer as much as she should have.
Good story up to the point it ends, filled with characters we care about (other than Traci and Johann, of course). However, the story arc seems to demand a bit more satisfying resolution than a brief mention of the rebound marriage and the final zinger at the end. This story cries out for a sequel or two, in which we get a bit mjore resolution, i.e. find out more about what happened to the necklace, more about Maya, some appropriate reckoning for Johann, details of a life-lived well with Rae Ann, a bit more groveling and regret from Traci, etc. Perhaps the author can use other Lobo songs as titles for the sequels, such as “There Ain’t No Way”, or “It’s Time to Face the Music and Dance”.
Dope story, Mr. 1957. Look forward very much to your December event story. Maybe more in between? Hope so. Gave you a five. Randi.
I did like the story, but wonder why Mr King did not go after this Johann and the company when he found out about the way they behaved before the divorce was final? jopstorm
Good story, he was no fool and completely saw through her lies. Several have asked about the necklace, but there is a problem. He and the jeweler know he commissioned the necklace specifically for his wife, so there is no way in hell he could risk giving it to Rae Ann and have her find out it was designed for his EX. His only choice was to let the jeweler sell it, or MAYBE offer it to one of his daughters. Thanks for sharing, H57.
Pretty good but not up to Hooked's usual standard. I feel it needed a better ending. Four stars
Loves her too much to like her, that is the point of the story????? Lame premise. He took it WAY to well. Cliche' ending.
It's a shame you just had to stick to the trite btb formula, where the cheated on spouse ALWAYS ends up with a better new one, shortly after the divorce. Also, the whole letting Rae Ann dance with the fuckwit? Oh, hell no. Ask him, loud enough for everyone to hear, if dancing with a VP is part of job requirements, force him to deny that it is, then she can formally refuse to dance with the miserable shit. And, oh btw, all that working out, but still letting the interloper get away free and clear? Pathetic cuck shit right there. Maybe she sensed that about him all along. He seems to be happy to have his second wife wear the pants and 'guard his junk' in public like a femdom bitch. A swing, that looked promising, but ultimately, a miss.
And what was the point of the jeweler and the necklace? You don’t write a lengthy beginning, then just ignore it’s aspect in the story?
The reason she wanted to stay friends with the husband is because she is 10 years older than Johan and she knows it. We know Johan's character. She wants ex husband waiting in the wings for when Johan cheats
Nice one.
Kinda wish the final line wasn't repeated twice - 'would have been way more impactful if King didn't previously drop it during the Christmas party.
Still, another great Hooked tale. Thanks for the share, author.
I was hoping for a longer tale as I turned the first page, but alas, it was not so. Not that this wasn't a complete story, because it was. The LW genre has been a little sparse on good stuff lately, so was hoping for more. Well done, as always! 5*
Me thinks someone highjacked Hooked1957’s handle.
Way too many loose ends hanging off of this very unsatisfying tale.
Beginning was formulaic, main body was very stilted and without illumination, ending, well, just crap.
Poor attempt from a usually reliable author.
And why in the fuck is Johann sporting balls?
Such a good bit of LW storytelling. Sure…broke no new ground. And yeah, another Traci got hit by the Slut Ray.
.
Loved that King just refused to deal with her. Loved that tne daughters, for the most part, understood Dad’s circumstance. Loved that Johann bailed on tne Slut.
.
In a sea where we seem to get swamped daily by cuck shit…H1957 deals us a straightforward tale of cheating and consequences.

"But I won't cheat on you. I need to be divorced to be free to find someone to be in love with." - She scores points for that. Guess that didn't work!
\
"with me staying in the guest room," - Why should he stay in the guest room? She's bailing on the marriage, let her move to the guest room.
\
"Just supporting our daughter, Kingston," - She could have done that without embarrassing her ex.
\
"Still, she seemed enthusiastic" - Why would expecting his call make her less enthusiastic?
\
"After about a year I assumed she would after she sucked up all five years of alimony." - I'm no divorce expert, but I would think that her having a baby with Johann, and cohabiting with him would call at least for a reduced alimony.
\
With everything else that went on, who cares about the jewelry?
\
Any chance of being friends would include stopping the alimony!
\
@Anonymous Re: "It was good until he started dating his ex’s co-worker.." - Why would that stop it from being good?
Middle of the road story. Once I found out she had been lying and cheating on me I would have had nothing to do with her at all. I wouldn't have helped her move out. I wouldn't talk or acknowledge her presence when we did cross paths. She would be a nonentity. She would get from me exactly what she deserved...NOTHING.
No offense, but it seems like an amalgamation of most cheating/divorce stories on this site; as if you cherry-picked a passage from one story, a phrase from that one. Extremely formulaic. Nothing new, no violence, no harsh language, no tension whatsoever: it demonstrates how to write a story with no emotion. A flat even keel from beginning to end. I'm thinking these two people didn't even like each other, let alone love.
.
Who the hell is Lobo? In '72, the greatest rock bands in the world were pounding the airwaves (still are) and nobody, but nobody, was playing easy listening teen-girl-tearjerker crap... well, except teen girls. Were you a teen girl in '72, Hooker?
This just amplify what happens about 35% of the time when a marriage gets stale of sorts. Partners do not communicate, and the attention paid to one or both ends up in an affair. If you believe L/W stories the cheating partner ends up single within 2-3 years. Then the cheater tries to come back. This story was good in the writer didn't belabor us with a long character development story. Most times what the cheater did in grade school is irreverent I would love to read a story where the violated spouse, takes back the cheater and brakes their heart into a M pieces. on purpose. Even better if spouses parents and their children are involved. Like poetic justice or something......
You told a very good story well. For my taste, the husband was way too lenient with Traci. Why should I still talk to my ex when she is already pregnant with someone else's child? I see no point in that. And the children are already too big to have to discuss anything together. 4*!!
Why would a 41+year old women with a perfect husband get sucked into a affair and no marriage get pregnant while married .this doesn’t compute. No birth control. Makes for a weak story line. Now on her own what a schmuck. She loved him but is no longer in love with him. 22 years thrown away. Pathetic.
Well written story. The characters were done well. The storyline is ok. There were a few holes that need to be plugged like at the beginning, the necklace is not mentioned again. Why didn't he file an 'alienation of affection' against her boss, or at least, some kind of revenge.... The ending came too quickly. We need to know more. Did Tracy ever get her life together, does King and Rae Ann have a kid together which would kind of humiliate Tracy, especially at her work.... 3/5 stars because it needed a stronger ending.
5 stars
"Romance" - romantic love - was invented by males of the human species. Not females. It is primarily so that all the "alpha males" don't just impregnate ALL the women around them. Women always know they are the mothers of their own children. Men can only hope and guess. Marriage was invented long before "romantic, in love" concepts and mongamous marriage has been by far the most overall successful institution for human populations to survive and grow. Almost every "loving wives" story here (that isn't some sexual fetish based) is "romantic love" based and especially "true" (never fades) romantic love -- on the HUSBAND'S side.
Great story, but... you never clarified what happened to the necklace. Is it for sale? Does it belong now to Rae Ann? Thanks for the story.
Good story. Some of the later dialog sounded rather juvenile. Expected a more elaborate conversation for a guy in his 40s.
I join the chorus of readers wondering what role the necklace and Mrs. Donovan played in your story. A sort of elaborate introduction and then a disappearance…to what end? Other than that, it was a very good story, with strong writing and interesting characters. What was missing? Well, I would have gone with the Iverson approach and added a dog named Boo, but that’s probably just me. You did prompt me to purchase the Lobo hits album, so that alone was worth the price of admission. Thanks!
Traci was a straight up liar and i saw through her bullshit in the first act. Now why the wimpy MC didn't sue the bank for not enforcing their fraternization policy is beyond me, Rae,Christy, and Joannes testimony then the PI report would make it a slam dunk case. Offset the alimony and as a hell yeah perk get the little dutch boy fired.
So Traci is approximately 48 with a 5ish year old daughter no husband in the country ior even a boyfriend and likely not good prospects to choose from.
Too bad for her, she didn't weigh the cost or realize what she was throwing away.
Sigh, about the necklace. At the beginning it represented their love, not it means nothing, not even worth mentioning.
Not bad.
But not good either.
I'm sure there was a good idea
somewhere inside the plot.
It just didn't make it out in the open.
Still, some good things here too.
4 out of 5 from me.
Good story, not great but passable. Why was Kingston so nice, Seems like he could have sued her company and maybe arranged for Johann to have a small accident. He was just too cool about everything.
Dreary little tale that has been done a gazillion times before... and done better.
I have no idea about the background story, but more than a decade ago in my community, a married woman with two teenagers had an affair, got pregnant. She divorced, they married and still are.
I continue to see the terminology "alpha male" which doesn't exist. There are those who bully and intimidate, but they possess no more sexual prowess than the next guy. Infact, other than sites like this the word "alpha male" is only seen in primates. Which begs the question, "Are we nothing but a bunch of monkeys? 1* for stupidity.
