That sudden twist ending for Beau was almost exactly what he deserved. After everything, I hope he suffered enough to regret his choices and shortsightedness
Excellent story, sir. Hopefully this will make it to your Patreon so I can enjoy it again there.
Now that, Folks, is the way you tell a story. My goodness and you give it away for free! Thank you, Sir, for sharing the product of your creative mind and your writing skills!
I pray the usual LW crowd don't descend on this and try to sully this story.
Cheers

Oh yeah 5 big ones of course!
Lovely story yet again……tho in my opinion, you chose the wrong category……not that it matters 🤫 …. I read everything you write . Thank you
Not really sure it's a LW story but, a very touching and sweet tale. We'll written.
Another well written and moving story - I could feel her pain of the abuse she faced with her ex-husband and Kyle's pain mourning the loss of his wife and unborn child. I admire you for the courage it takes to put these feelings into a short story. It would be very easy to turn most of your stories into a book or movie script. Thank you for this contribution.
I rushed to open this story as soon as I saw that it was one of my very favorite authors. It didn't disappoint in the least. Thanks for all your efforts.
That was an action-packed romance. As always, it was a pleasure to read. Very well done.
Great feel good story. Nice job. Although.... there were many parts where I felt the MC didn't really want her mother responsibilities and left her daughter in others care too much.
You are my favorite author on this site. I feel honored that you take time out of a likely busy personal life to share your creativity on an amateur story site. Your full characters glow with virtuosity and the villain is really bad. Hard to top how you weave a rich plot. Thank you so much for your efforts.

Excellent story. If we were around the campfire I'd want you to be the one spinning tales.
I could just give this a 3* rating and let it go at that, but I thought that an author of qhm's reputation deserved a more complete comment. Certainly he established that damaged goods rating of the principals in the story. Then he proceeded to bestow on us about 5 pages of nothing. The he realized he had to end this thing and he created the time-worn ploy of resurrecting the evil "ex". Threats of death and violence and then the happy ending. Just in the nick of time when the story was about to put everyone o sleep we have a touch of excitement and the grand finale and those that deserve it live happily ever after. The 3* rating says it all: "Average"
That was an emotionally charged 5* story.
Are there people like Beau? Sadly, too many of them.
Thanks, It was an enjoyable read. It would have been better if we found a better ending for Beau.
Another masterpiece Q! It "should" have been in the Romance section as there is no "slutty" LW anywhere to be found. But for you, we'll give you a pass. LOL! 5*
I did a lyrics search for "Any Day Now" and coincidentally I'm sure, there is another song with that title much more apropos to the LW genre. About a man who just knows his woman is going to leave him "any day now".
Excellent as always Q. Thanks for sharing your time and talent.
Great story.
The southern habit of ramming the "Church, church and HEY did I mention CHURCH?!?!?!?!" down everyones throat could have been trimmed back and we still would have gotten your point.
Sorry, but you lost me at page 3 when the terms of endearment like Babe, Hon, or Sweetheart start before they've even dated. and kissed once Then it's instantly "Hon". That just comes across as 3rd grade to me. You can throw all kinds of fantastical shit into a story and it works. Just not that. See it too often, maybe it's just a Literotica cliché?
Every once in a while reading through all of the stories in the genre...many of which are truly horrific...one gets written that is simply so good...that it's sort of shocking.
This is one of those. Just superb. Good dialogue. Great story line. Amazing character development. Emotionally impacting. Relatable situations.
Thank you.
Wonderful!! (Wrong category - should've been Romance.) One of the best stories yet on the site.
I was in fairly foul mood when I started - bad night - but I am feeling quite happy right now.
Think I'll go hug my wife. 5 stars plus!
good story of survival of a lost soul and a tragic love that together they heal and their love can grow
Came here looking for/expecting something else and feel absolutely blessed to have found this. My sincere thanks...
I really enjoyed it. My only comment is about Beau. Men like Beau who are that malignant are not going to change. They might try to camouflage their personality but they won't be able to prevent their violent behavior from taking stage when they feel slighted. His ex-wife never visited nor did she respond to his mail. This would be viewed as a personal slight and he had no ability to confront the object of his ire. Beau would have directed his rage and aggression to those around him. He wouldn't have been incapable of a good behavior release. You all but stated this in the story. Prison doesn't prevent violence and crime. Inmates break the law everyday and have time added to their sentence.
For those who don't know me... how do I know...
His name is Edward and he has been in prison for 16 years. Ed was my first husband. He put me in the hospital. I woke up in MY hospital recognizing where I was but not knowing how I got there. My embarrassment and shame when i found out was so extreme that i had to find a new job.
Eventually, my personal life story and my experience as an emergency department nurse, led me to go back to school.
I really love your story Leon. I understand why you included the scenes at the end and why you developed Beau in that manner. Most people wouldn't likely consider the reality of someone like Beau. I hope they never do. I won't ever hold this part of the story against the overall quality. I just felt compelled to be honest.
Best,
Andi
Lame and inane. An off duty police officer attacking an armed man using a book. Can't have anyone but criminals using guns, right? Grow up. Fortunately Darwin instructs us that people that naive or stupid will not be polluting the gene pool into many generations. Thank God. And thanks for the effort.
Okay, I have struck your name out with 3 black marks in my little black book, green with envy at your writing skills, just wow. If it wasn't for some typos it would be unhumanly great, now it is merely great:)
"You can't forgive him, not yet. Your heart isn't ready," - It's not a question of her being ready. As long as her ex remains a threat, how can she forgive him?
\
"I was surprised when it was over to see the men cleaning the tables and picking up trash." - Why? The women did all the cooking and baking, why shouldn't the men do clean-up?
\
"I grew still when I got to the one of his wives." - "Wife's!" He's not a polygamist.
Very very glad to see this and your other new submission. Thanks for sharing your writing.
Wow, I don’t know what else to say. Simply an amazing story. I felt like I knew every character personally. Thank you so much for writing this.
5*, good story, very well written, as is the case most of the time with the works you publish here.
There are 2 plot-holes you need to revisit.
The first is Abbie's father's history. On page 1 you make him out to have died after her divorce. You also make him out to be a caring and thoughtful person. Then, page 3, where Abbie tells Kyle she doesn't know what love is, you make her to have been raised by a single mom. So, which is it?
Also, I'm not sure the timeline of how much Beau spends in jail/is sentenced doesn't match up with Carrie's age.
Another excellent story, Q. Perhaps better off in the romance category, but who really cares?
5 stars for effort, but the religious pieces were off-putting.
The title should have been Green Grass and High Tides because the Outlaws song is much more in tune with the ending. Dylan’s I Shall Be Released was out of place because Kyle was the only one in prison.
Also, this was 100% Romance, not LW.
Beautiful story, both broken, and their recovery. The last section was chronologically confusing: it started at eight years post-wedding, then jumped to at least 14 years out, then back to Carrie in HS which would have been seven years out.
Good topic, but looks like it was carelessly edited … perhaps due to a short deadline? Definitely Romance, although the assigned theme looks like a tough one to do right in LW!
Excellent. A friend of mine and fellow author recommended you and every time I read a story from you I am reminded why. Great characters and excellent story telling.
THANKS
I enjoyed your story and was glad it appeared on my favorite list. It's been a while since you posted. I rated it four stars. I skimmed through several parts of the theme that begged for some pruning. Those could have been cut, and no harm would have been done to the story. Overall, it is that gushy romantic story interspersed with lots of conflicting past and present grief created by the ex-husband. He proved his mother was wrong about his changes!
Way, way too long. Tale filled with what we would label "fat" as designated in the Journalism class I took many, many years ago. Still, however, an excellent author (except for this tale--too much fat).
Wow. I loved Q's stories. This one was meh. It was good until you corrupted it with religion. That and the fact that Annie was constantly being pushed into decisions such as the garden, church, and camp. She should have put her foot down. I give it 3 stars and not 1 due to the fact of who the author is.
Wonderful job on this tale with a long healing and both of them finally finding their well deserved release from the past and their future together. Loved the epilogue, too. 5*
Hey Q, beautiful story. Always a pleasure to read one of your works. Thanks!
Killian
Just as a note, and not to take anything away from the story or the author. The song is entitled "I Shall Be Released." I first came across it on the Joan Baez collection of Dylan songs, "Any Day Now." The confusion is because the chorus is "Any day now, any day now, I shall be released."
A beautiful song.
A great story.
Stepping down off my soap box.
THANKS
Can't believe it- a Q story with real and normal people (not counting the 12y old son who had college scouts drooling over him- please). A delight to read, all the way thru, with perhaps the one criticism that out of all their friends and family NOBODY was willing to keep an eye on Beau?
To all those cranky commenters who persistently and annoyingly keep harping on whether a story is in the right category or not- WHAT THE HECK DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?? Enjoy the stories.
holy shit where is this? sure isnt texas lol when u said throw the book at him im sorry but that is one small ass paperback book lol
Beau was refused bail again, his sentence went active, and he was charged yet again with violating a restraining order, and two counts of aggravated assault, resulting in serious bodily harm. He drew the same Judge, and he threw the book at him after the jury found him guilty on all counts. He was going away for a minimum of four years and five months, if he behaved. Knowing Beau, I found that unlikely. Carrie Ann was nine now, and he still had almost a year to go.
Well I a glad a lot of persons like it. Personally I was just reading words so I could not really follow the story. Thus for me it was poor.
Hey next time you want to throw churchy stuff in your story kindly tag it.
I enjoyed reading this story. I do think it should be in the romance section.
5* of course, due to the emotionality you are able to convey very efficiently. I did feel the end was a bit rushed, and some of the transitions between scenes sorta jarring, but overall loved it.
Be as "churchy" as you feel is right for the story. Sheesh. Five stars. Fine, affirming read. At least bad boy didn't get himself shot at the church.
competent writing, but lacked tension.
Why do some people get their panties in a knot over the mention of religion (unless it's an attack on religion)
Another story telling gem. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Five stars goes without saying.
Fuck me man! My wife kept asking me "what’s wrong" 'cause I couldn’t stop crying 😭 lol ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was a very good story, even outstanding, actually. It was just a tad long. Descriptive sex scenes would have ruined the whole story for me. I agree that this could have been in romance as well. But hey, a good story is a good story, regardless where it's posted.
Does middle class America really have that much church in it. Good story though.
Indeed, this is a wonderful story, but why ln earth is it in "Loving wives", having none of the characteristics of that category.
There is always room for feel-good stories. The issue with the violent ex is disturbing because it is often a reality. The legal system often won’t really put away a violent offender until there is a death, but abusive exes are starting to be dealt with better. Happily, no one in this story was shot.
