There's a knack to creating a sense of the exotic along with the erotic. Go too far, and the story becomes difficult to relate to - too far outside ordinary experience. But hit it just right, and it's completely plausible, completely understandable - it becomes more, not less real as a result of bringing the unusual, the ambiguous and the slightly "other" into focus.
