I liked the idea of framing a period piece as a masturbatory fantasy. It gives a lot of leeway and offers interesting opportunities to tell something about the character whose fantasy it is. Though I remain baffled why anyone would have Hieronymus Bosch in their wanking fantasies :-D

Thank you, Omenainen. Katherine appears in some stories on other sites, and she is indeed a bit eccentric. In any case, she doesn't specifically use Bosch's imagery in her fantasies. As a lapsed Catholic, she did comment to Renée about what many painters got away with while using religious themes. She guesses that Bosch and other artists actually had what would now be called a BDSM fetish, and they indulged it through their paintings of Hell, the torture of venerated saints, and other such topics.
